Hi, I recorded mini DVD from my sony DCR DVD 101 camcorder. But these mini DVDs do not run on any laptop and any normal DVD Players???
Could someone tell how? If mini DVDs are not running on normal DVD players then there is no benifits of DVD camcorder.
Thanks in advance.

Munish,

I believe that these Sony camcorders record video in MPEG-2, which is the encoding mechanism used in regular DVDs. However, these min-DVDs are NOT constructed as "ready to play" DVDs for use in set-top boxes. Just a bunch of mpegs on a disc maketh not a regular DVD. A set-top box will almost certainly NOT play such a mini-DVD. A laptop SHOULD be able to play the files so long as it has an MPEG-2 decoder somewhere on the hard disk.

Hope that helps - post again if you have more questions.

I got one recently and it runs well many recent DVD players. However, I had problems running it on old DVD players. I havent tried on a laptop yet. But my guess is that it should run.

Anonymous,

Thanks for the correction! I had forgotten about this post, and in fact had subsequently found out that mini DVDs made in Sony camcorders could run in set-top boxes. We live and learn, eh?

I'll drop an email to Munish to alert him to my previous incorrect response.

Cheers.
