So, as I start out with everything that I know little knowledge on, I would like everyones input on what would be a very good quality sound system setup for my del sol.

I dont want to pay just for the brand name or anything, but i will be willing to shell out a decent chunk of cash for a sound system.

Now, the difficulty, is doing so, while not knowing wtf i need to get. Head Unit, all new 6.5" speakers, subs and an amp(amps?). I want a very good single DIN head unit, that has very high functionality but also very nice to look at visually. That being said, less theres anything better fitted I could get, im looking at one of these two:

alpine:
http://shop.alpine-usa.com/products/productdetail/Digital+Media+Receiver/part_nu mber=iDA-X305S/5666.0.1.1.88079.88080.0.0.0?pp=48&sort_selection=price_high_low&

pioneer:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/DVD-Receivers/MVH-P8300BT

Now, as far as speakers, my car takes all round 6.5" speakers. I was looking at Polk speakers, but some locals told me possibly MTX, although on doing research, a lot of people say MTX is overrated, and theres a lotta other speakers out there that have better highs and lows.

As far as subs and amps go, i have NO clue what im looking for. I would like 2 12s, but i feel it might be too much for a small 2 seater like i have, so maybe 2 10s would be better?

Any tips/criticism/recommendations are going to be helpful. Also, as far as music selection, I mainly listen to dubstep, techno of all varieties, rock, and some r+b and rap. thanks, and ill check back frequently to give more info as needed!

For the 6.5" you want not 2 way speakers but a component set for SQ, if you like polk:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_15059_Polk-Audio-MM6501.html

These are 6 3/4 which fit 6.5" holes and have better midbass.

For head units, both you mention are ok but neither have cd player. If thats ok then go for the one you like best.

If you want a SQ setup you will prefer sealed enclosures which are also smaller:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_24187_Alpine-SWR-1243D.html

Each one of these will need 0.65-1.25 cubic feet each have good sound quality and are not too expensive.

For sub amp:

For speakers amp:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_25535_MB-Quart-REF4.80.html

I have gone as cheap as possible but preserving the sound quality and powerful bass criteria. There is cheaper and costlier. Take a look at the links.

thanks for such a quick response! that reassures me as far as what kind of head unit i want. i also read good reviews on the pioneer one i listed, and personally between that and the alpine digital, ill end up getting the pioneer.

as far as speakers go, it doesnt have to be polk, i just heard they were pretty good speakers .

and the subs and amps look solid, but it definitely doesnt have to be a cheap build.

Say if im planning to spend around $2000, not including the price of the head unit or installation. what would you all recommend as far as speakers/amps/subs??

keeping in mind my choice of music(techno/dubstep/rock/rap), not for sure if im going for SQ or SQL. definitely dont mind letting everyone else on the street listenin to some sick beats with the targa top down ;)

There are many options these will fit the budget :

For SQ 6.5" component set:

For SQ 12" subs:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_20536_Image-Dynamics-IDQ12-V.3-D4.html

Each one of these will need 0.65 -1.0 cubic feet (internal) each have excellent sound quality.

For sub amp:

For SQ speakers amp:

$2000 can afford you a lot, this setup will sound crystal clear and powerful.

so i was researching that a bit. my del sol doesnt have tweeters, just 4 6.5" speakers. im wondering if i cant just find a setup like that without the tweeters?? also, that setup looks like it only comes with 2 6.5" speakers... would i have to get a whole setup like that for front and rear? not for sure whats all included in the kit but it seems like id have a lotta extra if i needed to get 2 kits like that lol..

The tweeters your car may have are not designed to work with the midbass drivers of that set. Those are usually low quality.

What is listed above will be all you need. The FOCAL set goes usually in your doors it includes tweeters, midbass drivers, crossovers.

Anyways at the cost of some SQ I could suggest lower priced stuff just tell me what do you want to spend for example for the component set.

Usually is not recommended to put anything but subs and/or midbass drivers in the back but if you want to put full range speakers there you can of course. it will loose some clarity though.

haha half of that i dont understand, as far as midbass drivers?? so that kit would give me front and rear speakers and tweeters? and does tthat come with its own speaker amp? if not what is that kit missing?? ill look at my sol tomorrow, i saw a diagram where my tweeters are now lol just never noticed.

and no if you think thats a good setup then i will trust ya, u seem to know ur stuff. i just was iffy if i was gonna have to buy two sets, cuz 800 bux would be a lot to have to spend on TWO kits lol!

so for now, i should just worrying about getting that kit, which will give me front/rear speakers, tweeters, and (amp?) and then get the pioneer headunit im looking at?? any other things i should look at before i finish saving up the money for them? cuz ill prolly have the monies in a week or 2 tops lol

Don't worry too much about the tweeters you see since those are most likely horribly bad sounding.

Anyways I was just looking at some pics and you may have space problems, so what year is your car and if you can provide a link to a picture if it.

yeah i did research, and tweeters are only on jdm doors, so id have to find jdm tweeters and install them into my doors lol. my car is a 1995 honda del sol si.

i dont have any pics of MY del sol's interior really, so heres a couple of examples:

http://www.hybrid-racing.com/wp-content/uploads/htup_1007_03_o+1997_honda_del_so l_si+interior_shot.jpg

heres something i just found on honda tech forums:

Jojomexi you do have a space problem, the subs in the pic are 10" so you may need to buy these instead of the 12"s:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_21058_Image-Dynamics-IDQ10-V.3-D4.html

The first thing I would do is talk to pro installers to see if you have a way to put 12" and the amps in that space. Anyways those subs will be so close to your head that probably you will end up deaf one way or the other.

Also you need to get a pro installer not some amateur, gear this good must be installed accordingly so get a few estimates, remember you are looking to install the subs in sealed enclosures 1 to1.1 cuft internal.

that was just an example . Idk how id feel about having the subs right at my back lol...

the trunks for del sol's are pretty spacious, so i could get 2 12's still, but i just dont know how well it would sound in such a small car. if you think 10s would still be more suitable i can go that route.

so from what ive gathered as far as a grocery list, if i get the focal kit, the preferred sub/speaker amps you listed, and the 12s or 10s you listed. and i need to have the subs cased in a sealed enclosure.

1 to 1.1 cuft internal? i will relay that as well, but just for personal benefit, what does that mean? thanks

With the subs you can go either route, you can place the 12"s in the trunk and get deeper bass, its just that if you were to fit 12"s inside your cabin it will be a tight fit.

1 to 1.1 cuft internal means that its the volume of air inside the box, not the external volume which will be larger because the thickness of the wood.

Also note that the 1-1.1 cuft is for each sub in its own separate chamber. take a look at the pic:

Upload

Also you could install ported enclosure for increased output but that at a cost of sound quality. The enclosure will be larger.

Ok, if you happen to have any questions ask, just remember a great installation is what makes your investment worth, so deal with the right people.
