hey every one im changing over from all out spl and wanting more sq in my ride
i have aluminum cd audio tweets and M6 6.5 but that doesn't hold up to the bass.

i would like to get 2 or 3 sets of 6.5s in my doors and upgrade to something that will sound even better if it doesn't cost to much.
iv been told that the mb quarts discus are good sets.
im not sure on price for everything. what kind of 6.5 sets have you guys owned that you really liked? good for the money?

Sony makes some serious SQ speakers. They'll meld beautifully with your SQ sub-stage.

So now that you have accomplished your goal of smashing the 160db barrier you are now going for SQ???

are you gonna change your substage? If not then you will not have a sq system. You will have a spl setup with a lot of mid/highs. Interested is some high end Onkyo tweets. Ecoustics special $10/pr. lol j/p If you are serious about going to a SQ setup... you are already going at it wrong by even considering cheaper brands of comp sets. SQ can be more expensive than SPL...

can be more expensive?

it is a hell of a lot more expensive.. and install is even harder

do your homework before you even start buying stuff

problem with SQ i've had is constantly changing equipment until you find what works best for your cars acoustics and trying to get staging/imaging correct

SEAS: Lotus 7" mid, 8" midbass, Lotus Tweet

or just run one of your subs at 250 and 3,000 Hz for midrange
and one at 100 and 250 Hz. for midbass.
Then throw some parts express $8 horns under your dash.

Post pics..Always interested.

i would never run a 7" midrange driver.. if you have an 8" mid bass driver.. go with a 3.5"-4" midrange

whats your price range? cuz i could suggest Focal which are AMAZING speakers that produce the highest quality sound you will hear, but its gonna take a big chunk of money.

talk to ExigeAudio about the CDT midranges.

supposed to me some really great midranges, and he will give you a h3ll of a deal as always. And you already got some good midbass speaks so i would say keep em, deaden your doors like crazy and build pods for the mids n tweets

I know a few people who could never get a good score, so they claimed they were just going to do SQ.

2-6 sets of components for an sq set-up is an overkill...

813thumper, focal are amazing drivers, but they do NOT produce the highest quality sound... IMO

your going to put yourself into a harder task than hitting your 160 goal

that is if you know what SQ is..

if your definition is just loud and clear.. its not SQ.. and from what I'm seeing.. thats what your looking for

^x2.

If you are just looking for multiple sets of components to keep up with your sub stage that is not sq. If you're tired of spl after one season, you'll grow tired of sq even sooner.

especially seeing as in SQ the fail pic is always lurking around the corner

lots and lots of trial and error

Treez, I have not heard another set of speakers perform in any way like the Focals but maybe you know of others? I would really value your opinion.

its all dependent on install.. you can have a 2000 comp set and it sound worse than a 100 set

SQ is brutal.

My buddy paid $10,000 CDN (not joking at all) and he got:: 3 cases of sound deadening, 3x10" hertz subs in a custom fibre glass box molded around the rear of his trunk the two side subs are regular while the middle is inverted, hertz 3-way fronts with customs pods, hertz 3krms sub amp, some fancy Audio Control unit and the hertz 140.4 amp all with a sweet custom install, tuning, amp rack/rear sway bar set up...etc and his car was in the shop for a month while it was worked on.

His1st compition for rookie SQ he got 5th place out of 7 people....he did win the peoples choice awards though.

SQ is a beast in its own rights.

speaking of SQ, i was at a car show the other day and i saw this truck with 4 hertz 12s and 8 hertz 6.5s in the box.
I asked him what amps he was running. he replies,"kenwood." Then i ask myself WTF? Why spend all that money on sq subs/speakers then power em with chitty amps?
