Alright, I know I ask a lot of different questions on here, but heres a new one.
I am a big fan of Metal. What subs would sound best on that kind of music.
I was thinking Eclipse or Diamond. I want 1, 2, or possibly 3 as long as they can stand 1000 RMS at any impedence.

I would go IDMAX, Revo or RL-S. Diamond D3 or Type R for budget. Mid priced, Fi Q.

I would look into doing 4 10s sealed for punchy bass that will maintain a lot of SPL. I tend to find smaller diameter subs and sealed boxes much more fit for fast bass.

Big subs and ported boxes just dont seem to cut it. Some say they do, but i've yet to find a 15 or 18 setup that loves 30+ seconds of double bass petals. And ive had a few 15/18 setups

Price range? Total RMS at what ohm?

I'd also like to say all of this is strictly car audio subs and car audio applications. I dont want Brad calling me out with pro audio stuff, as we all know he could.

I have a pair of RD Classic 12" subs sealed 1.25 each and they are great on metal. They hit every double bass kick and sound good and loud doing it(imo). They also sound great on rap too. I have heard great things about the IDMax, FI Q and sundown E8's too.

I'm working with 1000 RMS at any impedence 1.5-4 ohm. (JL 1000/1)
Budget in the neighborhood of $2-$300.
There is a sale on the RD Classics right now. So thats tempting.
The e8's sound like a fun project, but I don't know where I could buy them.

The RD classic is a great sounding sub.
3 Ascendant Audio assassins would sound good as well.

Sealed is 1.0-1.33 cubes

Ported is 1.66 - 2.25

ported is 12.5-17.5 sq inches of port opening per.

Sealed will sound best

Just get 8 Alpine type R 10s and build a platform box with unicorn ports. Put 2 sonys amps on that and youll have the 2 fastest combined metal music players for that combination.

Also, look at the Mach Audio F5 #44381946 Stereo Set that comes with installation in the New mustangs...the nicer ones...that are a little faster...i think, like 1.9 on the 6s.
That would sound real nice with the alpines and they are realllllll loud. This mach set had my ears ringin for a month.

I had a 1.25 box from my other sub and most 12's use around that size sealed so i just made another for the other sub. I also put 1 lb of polyfill in each box and it seemed to me that it has hit lows better and louder overall(to my ears).

Alright, I am expecting my RD's here soon.
Problem is I had to sell my JL amp to fix my car... I got about $200 left over to spend on a new amp to power the Classics...
Suggestions?
I was thinking something like maybe a Hifonics 1206d?

I have a hifonics 1206d and it powers them nicely. Keep in mind that amp will only do about 800-900wrms clean though. Also polyfill makes the subs preform like they were in a larger enclosure, its not needed if you make the box the right size though.
If you could spare some more money i would get an aq1200d or see how much an rd1000.1 would be, both will do their rated power. I have had no troubles with my hifonics amp though, running at 1 ohm.

They will love the power. Keep the power clean, which the AQ even has a clip light on the remote to make it easier.

Out of curiosity are you going sealed or ported?

Oh and as far as box size that 1.1~1.15 cubic feet is after sub displacement. You need to take sub and wood displacement into account when building the box.

If its sealed all you need to do is take inside measurements, Length x Height x Width = cubic area. If you are measuring in inches then you need to divide by 1728 to get your cubic feet. And that box calculator is nice but its for a basic slot port.

yea.. they were made for spl. i hooked em up and they sound pretty f*ckin loud and they are in a prefab sealed box. i havent ported them yet but im sure the output is going to be better. i had them hooked up to a fusion 2000.1 and they were getting like 1200-1300 watts and it seemed like they wanted some more power. the owner before me had them on a rd 1750.1 and thats what im getting next week for them. idk maybe you did get lucky and get a pair of the rd sonance promos haha idk or maybe i have classics :-(

The classics are SQ subs from what i've been told.
I am looking for a bigger amp. I've looked at a Kicker 1200.1 (not my favorite option, but it is what is available.)
1200 watt US amp
If I can sell my 500/1 soon I'm looking at an RD 850.1

What do you think about running a Nine.1 on the RD's?
1400 @ 1 ohm at 14 volt.
1200 @ 1 ohm at 12.5 volt.
Can get a brand new one w/warranty for 300-325 range.

nice... type r comps are nice. my friend has a set in his truck and they sound really nice. how much did you pay? please dont tell me you went to best buy haha

and yea you would be fine with the sundown 1000d. perfect match. if i were you though i would probably get the rd 850.1 just because matching products is cool :-) lol and you probably wont hear any difference in output between the sundown and rd amp.

I wouldn't go to Best Buy unless I wanted to be raped by a man in blue and yellow. Ha

I basically traded a JL 300/4 for the two sets of speakers BNIB and two 8" MTX 6000's in small truck boxes.

Although now I have the speakers and need a new amp to run them. haha

I planned on buying a cheaper amp then those JL's anyways. Getting out of that game.

If CACO doesn't activate my membership soon i'm going to grab an RD 850.1. I've been waiting on the activation email for hours...

If you do end up making a ported box, let us know how it turns out. I was thinking about making one but didnt want to lose the great responsiveness that they have sealed(i read a review that sad they got sloppy ported so i was weary). The extra volume would be nice but if that meant no responsiveness then i wouldn't do it.

For anyone who is still interested... lol

Got everything installed today, tested the RD's on a little bit of rap.

Me and My Goons - Plies Sounded great, hit the lows very nicely. Could feel it vibrating my chest.

However there was poor response on metal. So I will need to get a sealed box for them and see how they will perform in it.

NOTE*** Used a PRE FAB slot ported box... so I wasn't expecting great results on metal at all. Should be a hundred times better on Metal in sealed box to specs.
