Well hey guys, I've been off E for a while, but I need a question answered to remember why I love E(Ecoustics not Extacy sorry for the confusion).

Anyway, I have been thinking lately that my subs don't hit as hard as they should on single bass hits, but they sound really good on continuous rolling bass. I think it might be because My port is too big. Or is it just the way my subs are designed (2 12" Alpine type-r)? My cousin's 15" kicker comps in a prefab ported box hit harder, but my lows are louder than his. His subs are in a blazer while mine are in a trunk car. I have a hifonics 1208D amp(weak I know) he has a crunch 500wrms amp(so his is weak too). Could it be the tuning? Mine is tuned to 35hz, but I have no idea what his is tuned to. Stock electrical on each car.

My box specs(all measurements in Inches unless noted otherwise):

W:37
H:16.5
Depth:19
Port height:15
Port width:5
Port length:35.5
Port Area:75
Port volume internal:2662.5
Box volume(ft^3):3.84
tuning frequency: 35hz before sub displacement

Anything else you need to know?

could be coincidence but i noticed the same thing with my old box and the port area was HUGE for the box size

get em in a strict diet and morning work outs tell them to increase their reps by 2 after every day that and a nice little 10 minute jog every morning and your subs should be hitting like Rocky in no time hope that helped

Kevin, is your sub and port firing into the cab?

try subs and port facing rear

what ohm voice coils are your subs?
how do you have setting set on amp?
what HU are you using?
have you checked your voltage while the long bass is hitting(voltage drop) with a dmm?
any other crossovers/eq's hooked up?

No where near as loud mark. He has the same car I do.

The problem is you are tuned a bit too low. Sure, it looks good on paper, but our trunks are kind of weird. I would try tuning around ~37hz or so on paper.

It has always been the way it is. I really think it has something to do with tuning and port size(that port seems way too large right?). Sean helped me design a box tuned to 37hz with 2 4" aero ports. I think when I build that it will make a difference. Anyone agree?

I agree, Kevin.

As I said earlier, our cars are very weird when it comes to the tuning of boxes. You will have better results tuning a bit higher such as 37hz or so.

Nick,

I know you plug a port on your box, does that make your sub lose some of its punchy-ness?

Not really. It lowers the tuning from 51 to 45hz tho. Makes it a little bit more musical.
