If you have an amp rated 3000rms at 2ohms and you set the gain to what it should be (~77 volts) and your car voltage stays strong at 14.4 when the sub is playing does that mean you ARE getting the 3000rms out of the amp?

Depends on the frequency at which the amp was tested, and what actual ohm load the amp is seeing.

It means you would get 3000w out of the amp if you played a test tone a full volume....... music is dynamic so the amp will only be producing that much power for brief moments.

BTW is you're talking about the massive, those amps are overrated so no that one won't do 3000w.

i see. If you were to use a clamp meter and a dmm to find out the powerr of the amp would you do that wile playing music so you can see how much power your amp puts out wile playing music?

well if i set the gain so ac voltage come out at 77volts tecnicaly wouldnt that mean it puts out the 3000rms cuz that what the gain would be set to?

Hell no. Thats how you get clipping, setting the gain to try and make the amp do more power than it actually can.

Think about it can you crank the gain way up and have the amp do 4000w just because you set it to that voltage? No.

IIRC that amp does around 2500w but don't quote me on that

well i think im buying a zx2500.1 tonight if everything goes right i was jsut curious about the massive.

you can use a clamp meter and a dmm to find out an amps output rms right?

Noooo.... takes a lot more than that...

power supply that will hold voltage under full load
scope
high current resistors of the resistance you want to test
DMM

then in addition to that if you want to measure efficiency you need a clamp meter.
