I hate to recommend this again because id like to try something different but two audioque sd 2 entry level 12's if he can fit them would be more along the lines of what I think your friend would like and a new amp

the cvrs are priced right but make sure you have the room for them and the charging system to power them right....im assuming this is the truck you mentioned in another post and its an extended cab but let us know what it is

"type r's..."

he would need more power to run those to fullest capability and I dont think he will have the charging system to do that....but they would probably have better sq than the cvrs

actually he might be able to fit them

alpine type r 10

# sealed box volume: 0.5-0.8
# ported box volume: 0.6-1.3

kicker cvr 10

# sealed box volume: 0.8-3.0 cu. ft.
# ported box volume: 1.25-1.75 cu. ft.

so overall the alpine subs will fit the easiest

if its not an extended cab four tens isnt going to happen....it would have been hard to do or maybe not possible at all with an extended cab....I should have figured it wasnt an extended cab when you said two 12's wouldnt fit because I designed a box for two 12's in an extended cab truck and it fit
