My car can only supply about 500-600 watts to a sub, and i plan on using a pyramid 600watts 3ohm monoblock amp should i use a 12 inch or 10 inch

go with the 10 for that amp.

btw that amp isn't going to put out 600wrms. you would be lucky if it puts out 400wrms.

Any amp you can buy solely at a drug store (London Drugs) is trash. When they give you that rating of 600watts that is the power the amp gives right after it gets struck by lightning.

A while back my buddy ran a pyramid amp on a Phoenix Gold sub and man did that thing light on fire and smoke out his car.

Go with the 10inch. If you could supply more power do the 12inch.

" Go with the 10inch. If you could supply more power do the 12inch. "

What logic did you use to make that conclusion. Please, do tell.

Get the 12", it will louder than the 10" (more efficient due to more cone area).

Some people seem to think you have to power a sub with the most power it can take, which is not true at all.

Is this suba good choice if i want something that will hit hard, but still sound good? Or is there something else out there for the same price that will hit harder and sound better?

the w7? or pauls? the dub7 won't win a ton of SPL comps, but it will get decently loud and sound really nice... ive never heard an rl-i... i am under the impression they are sq subs. there are louder subs that sound nice for the same price as the w7...

look into audiopulse.

It was just a suggestion lol.

SS is known for SQ. If you're looking at Pyramid then you probably won't want to look at my combo. Much more $$.

Good luck tho.

the 12w7 will get louder than the 10w7 due just to the fact that the 12 has more cone area. go for the 12w7 man. just do it. lol

will a 12 have worse sound quality than a 10", someone told me 12" subs start to sound muddy, and if the rated RMS for a 12" is 400-1000 can i not have it go below 400 watts? (will it sound bad if i dont want it to be super loud)

who ever told you that doesnt know what they are talking about. put that 12w7 in a box built to JL specs and it wont sound "muddy" at all, definately not a W7.

It will be noticable. People love to say the bigger the woofer the worse it sounds, but it just depends on the enclosure. I've heard 18s sound better than 10s. Go with the 12, there's no way to hurt it by underpowering it unless you set the gains on your amp wrong.

If I had to choose between the two I'd definitely go with the 12W7 or even the 13w7.

Reason why i said go with a 10.
1. If money is am issue
2. Wild guess is he has a stock charging system.
3. He might not get that great of an out put with a 12 and turn the gain all the way up.

I would beef up the charging system of that vehicle whatever it is. That way I didn't have to worry about this whole issue but money is probably a problem from the sounds of it.

" 2. Wild guess is he has a stock charging system. "

Which is completely irrelevant to what size sub he should get.

" 3. He might not get that great of an out put with a 12 and turn the gain all the way up. "

Ok, that makes absolutely no sense. If the output of a 12" would be "not that great", a 10" would be less........ the 12" will produce more SPL than the 10" on the same power.

" 1. If money is an issue "

Ok I will buy that one. But I'm willing to bet the price difference won't be that much.

you both make good points. but the question is which would be more efficient with 600wrms? from some of the guys that are running that sub are telling me that they are power hungry. so you won't be getting full out of the 12. still would be louder than the 10 though.

also, the 10" enclosure will fit better in my car, so i will be able to push it back atleast 8 inches more than the 12", would that extra space for the sound to mature help?
