As long as you set your gains properly it makes no difference on the HU voltage

The higher voltage is cleaner and to an extent helps to eliminate noise. I have noticed sound level increases using higher voltage signals, but dont base your purchase solely on preamp voltage. Another way to boost voltage is to purchase a line driver, or an eq that has a built in line driver. I'm planning on buying a Clarion EQ that will boost my unit from 4 to 7 volts, rerID=609
