okay before i hear it ill just say that yea i know a capacitor wont cure the lack of voltage/power or whatever...but i do plan on getting a new alternator aswell...

so with that being said...on to my question. Will it be fine if i use a cap rated higher than my amp? for ex. i have a 1600 watt amp. can i use say 2.0 farad? or do i have to stick with 1.6 farad? i dont have any experience with them so any help would be great! P.S. I do plan on getting a 20volt or higher and not a 16volt.

haha thanks guys so bottom line im am gettin a 2.5 farad cap for my 1600 watt amp. that will have plenty of quick juice to feed the amp although that being said the cap will only ever have 1600 watts of juice in it right?

no there will be 2500 watts of juice in it just think of the cap as a bank or a resever which saves energy and relases it as you need it

hell farads don't mean a hell of alot just don'tgo over 5 cause the discharge to charge rate goes down to where it'd not worth a dime. i run on a 600 rms infinity and i'm running a 5.0 farad tsunami cap. farads only matter when u decide to go to large.

idk i'd go after the distro that way ur at the amp. cause it's suppose to be very close to the amp to work correctly.

ok put the cap in front of everything ok this is what your wiring should be set up

wire from battery to cap
from cap to distrubutor
from distrubutor to amp

As a guide, 1 fared per 1000 watts.
And yes, bigger ground wire is fine to use.
