I'm going to get a single 12" sub. I have already narrowed my choices down to these two, but just can't make up my mind between them (even though they're priced differently, the price is not a consideration). Does N-E-1 have an opinion ?

MTX Thunder5500 T5512-04, OR

Alpine SWR-1242D

Hey, The End, if they both suck, then tell me what you think would be a better 12" to get in that price range (that is, $120 - $200).

I disagree with Chauncey, and biggs. You can't get much better for the money, and for the money alpine type r's don't suck. They are one of the best budget subs available.

To me. Buying crappy equipment is nothing short of a cheap education. Obviously cheaper to take the advice of the experienced, but some only learn by failing. Their loss. I have learned this very same way. Education can sometimes be painfull.

You guys are not answering MY QUESTION. Please, for the sake of audiophilism, just tell me which of those 2 subs is the better one: the MTX, or the Alpine Type-R ? Thank you, thank you, thank you.
