What exactly is the coil and what does it do? Does it matter how many a sub has or is it all about how you hook it/them up?

this is a computer animation of the above picture. It displays the vc moving throughout/beyond the magnetic gap:

here is an actual vid of the vc burning up

a single voice coil (svc) is basically 1 wire wrapped in a coil around the former.
2 wires is dual voice coil (dvc) etc.
what this coil does is once current is sent through it, it creates a dynamic field that interacts with the static field of the magnet (the big thing that everyone goes bannanas for). the static field repels the dynamic field and moves the vc forward or backwards (depending on pos or neg). when the vc moves, it causes the former to move since they are connected. then the former is connected to the cone, so the cone moves forward, pushing air and thus producing waves of sound.
