We need more info:

Do you really know how to wire up a stereo system or did you just try it anyways?

Is there an external cross-over involved?

Are the woofer tinsel leads touching the tweeter/midrange wiring?

Do you have a cross-over setting on your amp/HU, and is it set to cut off low frequencies?

clipping...you drove your headunit's amplifier too high...instead of a normal sine wave, it produced a square wave...it damages speakers and eventually leads them to blowing...more speakers blow from amplifier clipping than actually feeding them too much power.
