Kick Panel Speaker Box - Gap Issue

I'm installing a kick panel speaker panel/box for my classic volkswagen bug.

I'm installing infinity component speakers.

In order to get the panel/box to fit right with my carpet, there is a 2 inch gap at the top of the panel. I'm wondering how much effect this will have on the speakers. Should I try to fill the gap with some kind of insulation foam, or would I be able to leave it as is?

The gap is approximately 2 inches deep, by 6-8 inches wide.

Thanks in advance

Why not, something like Dacron can be used for that. Speaker like damped surfaces. Now is it critical, don't think so either, maybe try it both ways to see.

Thanks for the reply Joe.

I guess the main reason for asking is that the gap is going to be tough to fill. I was thinking some sort of expanding foam would be easiest. I've researched the dacron and will think about this as an option after I power up the system and see how it sounds.

put the infinity speakers in plates on the door panels, or in the kickpanel area. put the sub in the front trunk, or behind teh back seat.
