Sup guys, im in the process of buying my first system and i want it to be decent, not the ordinary pioneer system or sony xplod system that everyone has in south africa.

Im looking for decent sites that will explain what type of amp is best with different types of subs. Im still newb ok but anyway,

Pioneer TS-W309D4 12" Dual 4 Ohm versus Alpine SWE1242?

im really swaying towards Alpine just cos it looks sooooo nice. But im only get one 12 inch, and im looking for the perfect sub to power 1 of the 2. Now i dont know much about dual coil and all that and I would like some advice. This will be installed in a toyota auris, so im thinking a ported box is also the best option?

Ok for the Alpine I would use a 250W 4 ohm amplifier such as this:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_33002_MB-Quart-FX2.60.html

For the Pioneer I would recommend 1 400W at 2 ohm amplifier such as this with its coils wired in parallel:
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_33006_MB-Quart-FX1.400.html

Here is how to wire the subs coils in parallel:

Upload

The pioneer is going to be a louder subwoofer other than that are very similar.

Both subs are better suited for use in a 1.5 cuft sealed enclosure but can work in a ported 2 cuft enclosure tuned to 35Hz for louder boomy bass.

Thanks for the reply, i chose the pioneer, and im about to buy a Reference Audio 3500D amp: http://www.soundslimited.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_47&produ cts_id=185

What are your thoughts on this?

Is it a good thing to power your stock speakers with a amp or run it straight off the HU?

Well, I don't know Reference Audio but I read that those are 1000W RMS mono amplifier, that's too much power for the subwoofer you should put no more than 400W RMS on the subwoofer or it will blow.

You can power your stock speaker with an amplifier but it has to be a 2 or 4 channel amplifier with no more than 60 RMS Watts per channel.

There are 5 channel amplifiers that can power both a subwoofer and 4 speakers. Unhappily I don't know which brands you have available in your country.

This is what we have in South Africa:http://www.soundslimited.co.za/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2_47&sort= 20a&filter_id=53&page=2

You think its best to get a pioneer amp as well? Is this sub any good? i've been reading some other posts where they say that pioneer is crap...

Ok yes both the Alpine you were looking at and the Pioneer are inexpensive subwoofers, and not very loud but are reasonably good sounding. Looking at the options you have, I would have recommended an Alpine type R subwoofer to get much louder if that's ehat you wanted.

This would be a perfect amplifier for that Pioneer subwoofer and 4 of your stock speakers:
http://www.soundslimited.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_46&produ cts_id=147

Unless you want to buy a much more powerful subwoofer in the future that would be enough. It will make installation very easy by avoiding wiring 2 amplifiers. Hope it's not over your budget, of so then one can lok at alternatives.

I was wondering if you are going to build your enclosure or you are going to buy a prefab.

wow R3250 is a sh!t lot of money for an amp...is it worth it to run the stock off an amp? its pretty decent already, im actually impressed that toyota's stock speakers plays that loud with bass and all that...I might get another pioneer 12, but as a gift so I dont have a say lol.

Im gona buy a box, a sealed one is apparently the best for this type of sub, says many other other people.

Ima buy 2 6x9's as well, what brand would you recommend?

What system are you running?

That site has very few brand names I can recommend, for 6x9 if your budget allows :

http://www.soundslimited.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=37_126&pro ducts_id=660

These have kevlar cones very clean sounding and loud 6x9 not as expensive but if these are too expensive then get anything from JBL or Pioneer, I'd say Infinity or maybe Focal (best) but you are not going to like the price.

For that sub I would probably get any of those monoblocks:

http://www.soundslimited.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_47&produ cts_id=1460

Probably this:

http://www.soundslimited.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_47&produ cts_id=180

But there are two other things you can do, either look at your local brands or I recommended two amplifiers in my first reply, that company ships worldwide, in the light of the incredibly expensive prices you have there it could make sense to import.

All my speakers are from Focal and a sub from DLS but I didn't pay those sick prices, I guess I would love to sell stuff on your country, I would get rich fast.

ok ima try to get the phoenix gold amp, with that said, if ima get another sub then i will just buy another phoenix gold amp. I will take those 6x9's and run it off a 2 channel amp and the stock stays on the HU's power.

yo yo, sup homie.

I have the system installed. So everything is set up like it should be, only one prob...i need to change the crappy toyota stock HU in order to get all the power that is needed. I did not know that this would have such a massive effect on the sub...Anyway, as i increase the volume on the tape, the sub gets less power.

Im thinking of getting the infinity kappa 6x9's and another amp to power the rear speakers and the 6x9's before i change the HU.

I do not know what the stock speakers are for the toyota auris, I looked everywhere and i also dont wana scratch, do you perhaps know where i can get those details?

Ok, which year is your car and also, you mean what size of speakers will fit your car is your question??

Also let me know what equipment did you end up installing and how it was installed.. to see about the sub loosing power.

I have a 2008 Auris. I actually want to know what the stock speakers are that comes with the Auris, maybe i can use that instead of replacing, otherwise, if its up to 6.5" then i will replace it with infinity.

I bought the reference audio 3700.1 class D amp. It's set up as 2 Ohm feeding 600w straight to the one pioneer DVC 450w 12". The 2 back speakers were disconnected so im using the high low converter on that to feed the amp.

Does the HU really make that much of a difference? It sounds reaaaaalll good when im sitting inside the car, but i think it can be louder. I have to much bass since i did not by the 6x9's yet. Was wondering why it doesnt sound that loud when im standing outside the car with the boot and doors closed.

Ok Cameron it seems an adapter will be necessary, take a look:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CT25TY02-Toyota-Auris-Corolla-165mm-Speaker-Adaptors-/15 0632228077?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item23126164ed

A single low power 12" will not be heard a block away, there are 1700W RMS 12" subs so try not to expect too much of it, besides sealed enclosres are not as efficient as ported ones and that's another thing to consider. But I am surprised that the sub hasn't blown.

You could replace your HU with one with pre-outs and high voltage output but that, I think, probably it will get louder but that would set the stage for you blowing the sub. If you want to get that loud, at least you should upgrade to a high power 15" subwoofer.

I was told that i should go sealed all the way with this sub. Reason being that i would get deeper bass. With the ported, it would be louder, more clarity, but less bass. The ported would use more power and strain the amp a bit more.

The sub hasnt blown because the high low converter is set to half way so the power has been reduced just in case i feel like playing extra loud. With the current config, 600w rms to the 450w sub, it gives more leeway, i dont strain the amp at all trying to get that last watt, there is 150w that the amp has left so its a safe measure i think.

What do you think of this? JVC KW-AVX706

Yes both the Alpine anf the Pioneer you considered are recommended for use in sealed enclosures but all they say is incorrect, the reason to go sealed is that the ported box for those 2 particular speakers wold need to be huge.

For sound quality I would recommend Pionner or Alpine but I think you will do fine with that JVC given that you are listeneng a stock HU.

It's a good thing that you are taking steps to protect the sub, if you need more output you will need a better sub or subs.

A speaker in a ported enclosure will sound louder, as much as if you were giving twice the power to the same speaker in a sealed enclosure and bass performance will be better. Depending on the design of the box, could be a little less clear than in sealed though.
