i have a 92 mustang hatchback and right now im only running about 510 watts rms in it (350 into 2 subs and 160 into 4 speakers). At night, my light dim and my voltage drops down about 2-3 volts.

Im going to upgrade my subs to a sx soon running a kicker 600.1 to it. I was wondering what size of alternator i would need. Im gonna upgrade the alternator soon and i found a good deal on a 140 Amp. Would the be enough for the kicker and the 160 watts i have running to my speakers or owuld i need to get a higher amperage? I think my stock alternator is 65 amps.

If 140A is all you can afford, that'll certainly be better than stock.
However, 170A or higher would cover you in the future too.

You can get up to a 275 amp alternator on your car with very slight mods. I can build a 180 amp that will bolt on with no mods for about $225 shipped. 100% NEW - NOT REBUILT.

Some of the 4Runners can use a different style alternator that can be build to 200 amps. What year is it and the engine size ?

Nathan,

It's a 1992 SR5 4-Runner with the 3VZ-E V6 engine.

You told me once before that you could build a 200A for me, but it would require wiring and bracket mods. I'm not too confident in my modifying ability. I would love to get the 200A instead of the 160A, but I also want to be able to install it myself.

Yeah James - I wish we could get something bigger on it in a direct bolt on.
