I wanna get my mom a new digital camera for christmas, was wondering which brands to look for, what some good deals are.

I wanna get her something with atleast 8.0 megapixels. What are other specs to pay attention to?

Suggestions appreciated.

Apart from megapixels, you may consider:

Zoom
Image stabilization
Shutter lag
Flash recycle time
Battery type
Size

Canon is the most popular brand. There are a couple of sites that can help you choose:

are you looking for a point-and-shoot or an SLR?

Canons are good because they have a high CCD. Thats important.

"Canons are good because they have a high CCD. Thats important"

Who told you this? What data do you have to back this up?

And what is a "high CCD"?

And then you have the fact that the original post was a recommendation for a Christmas gift.

and knowing would affect you in what way?

But if it is important in you decision making process,
Canon is still number 1 in sales in 2006 followed by Nikon.

Olympus and Pentax were tied in 3rd and followed by Panasonic and Samsung.
