Ive had this camera since it hit the shelf, and for the most part its been very good. Recently when I hit the power button the telephoto lens retracts back, and forth. Then a message says shut off, and turn power back on. I was told the telephoto motor was going bad, and the best bet would be to just buy a new camera. To repair 225.00 to 250.00. Recently I have heard many good reports on Canon products. I would like to stay in the 250.00 to 300.00 range. Any advice? Thanks

Read the threads regarding Sony/Canon cameras. If you can swing for the Canon SD700, it will be worth the few extra bucks above your budget.
