My Sony DSC-P71 turns on in Scanmode but won't power up in any of the picture or MPEG modes. It just shuts the camera off when I turn the mode dial. The batteries are brand new and I have tried resetting the camera. I havn't dropped or gotten wet. Any suggestions?
I have an identical problem as well. I have alway taken excellent care of it too. Is this a common problem?

Mine has the same problem. One day I turned in on and used it OK. The next day it won't power on in any picture (or video) taking mode. I have also tried resetting. It did set everything back to factory settings, but still won't stay on in anything but the setup and review modes. It worked on Dec 13th 2005. The next time I tried to use it was Dec 21st 2005. No luck on the 21st. I already figure on having to buy a new camera, but does anyone have a clue as to what is happening?
