That's why I haven't bought a plasma or flat screen yet. I'll wait till they're perfect, last for 15 years and cheap as hell.

I'm kicking myself for spending hundreds of $$ on my dvd recorder.

That time is pretty much now Paul. The photons in the latest plasma sets have a half-life span of 60,000 hours. Thats almost seven years, 24 hours a day. You're looking at around twenty years of normal use. And they have also nearly eliminated burn-in issues (which are critical mostly in the first 100 hours of display use anyway) with auto switching and other technologies. Top notch 50" 1080P models by the leaders like Panasonic and Samsung can now be had for under $2000. And LCD's, which are still the way to go in rooms where room lighting and reflections can't be controlled, are coming down fast too and new screen technologies have all but eliminated the blurring and motion artifacts issues.

And speaking of DVD recorders... I was at my buddies house the other day and he was showing me this Magnavox unit he bought for $150 at Costco. Normally I frown at the low/mid level brands, but Magnavox has always been decent stuff for the cash and this was not only a DVD recorder but also a hi-fi stereo VCR. I was amazed at how they are selling them so cheap now. Wasn't more than a year or two ago when a DVD recorder of any kind was $1000+. Same thing is happening with Blu Ray now. The players are evolving each revision and are coming down in price very sharply.

I thought I told you to buy Blu-Ray Chad.

Nice post Brad. Yeah they have come down in price. Just not quite low enough for me yet. I drop 2 Gs on a tv and 1 1/2 years from now it will be $650. I'm ok with my 48" Mitsubishi for now, but I'm also looking forward to freeing up all that floor space.

You young guns probably don't remember but back in my day when VCRs came out they were $1000. My parents used to rent them to watch rented movies!

Today they are $30, (if you can find them). Not to mention the format is soooo obsolete.

I hate walking past my VHS movie collection thinking "what a waste".

Someday soon I'll be saying that about my DVD collection.

That's nothing. My uncle paid $1200 bucks for one of the first calculators, rofl.

I'm not an early adopter specially when it comes to new technology. I like to observe first.

I was specially cautious when it came to the new DVD format wars. And BAM! it is finally drawing to a close....I think!

I remember when CD players first came out...$1200 for a single disc player and CDs were $22.00.

Yeah I remember the first cd player I had. It was an LXI model from Sears. It had like 6 functions lol. Play, stop, ffw, frw, pause and random.

My friends were all like: That's the coolest thing ever!

i like both systems. xbox has more games, yes, but its also been out like a year longer. wait until ps3 flourishes; MGS4, Gran Turismo HD, Twisted Metal ps3, etc. this is definitely the year for ps3. it also has a web browser, has the ability to have an OS installed, and of course has free online play :-)

I think the only reason I would buy a 360 over a ps3 is for halo 3 (and maybe gears of war). And that is a good enough reason imo. I don't think halo 3 is as fun as halo 1 or 2 were, but it is still my favorite FPS on the next gen consoles. I think I can honestly say Halo has changed my life, and that is a sad thing. Just from typing this right now and thinking about it, I realize it was an addiction.

all I can say is im glad I waited to buy either machine this time...I own a regular xbox and a ps2...I was very close to buying a xbox360 once but the price of new games selling at 60 bucks ticked me off so I said forget it...I want the ps3 mostly for the blueray player but figured why when I dont have a high res tv
