Are there any advantages/disadvantages to hard wiring a radar detector? i'm tired of having the cigarette lighter cord always in my view.. because of the way my dash is it just looks bad. i'm just wondering if i buy a hard wire kit am i going to lose and power or anything like that? anyone with any experience, your opinion is appriciated.

also, my radar is an Escort 8500 X50 if that makes any difference.

This was the kit i was looking at:

You can hard wire any 12 volt component. That kit would work great but you could also just get 2 tap-in connectors, cut the end off the cigarette lighter cord, and tap in to the wires behind the dash.

The only disadvantage I could think of is losing the convenience of being able to move the detector from one car to another.

and cal, pictures would be great. as for moving it.. i don't think that's a very big concern of mine. last time i let my friend "borrow" mine it ended up gone for 4 months so.. lol.

Yeah, cut the adaptor off, strip the wires, find your 12v on the back of the dash or in the fuse panel that is on when the car is and tap into it and ground the other wire. Pretty simple and look MUCH cleaner IMO
