Well since I was childless today I got busy on my SI Mag HT sub project. (In between playoffs). Here are some pics.

Starting putting the walls together.Upload

Walls are done and corner bracing in.Upload

All sides and top and bottom installed.Upload

Holes cut out for sub and amp.Upload

Dry fitting the Mag and plate amp.Upload

I've ordered the carpet, corners, adhesive, ports, and wire so it will be a couple of days before I can continue. I'm covering it with jet black and charcoal colored carpet to match the Mag. I'm shooting for a tuning of 29hz so I'll have to adjust the port lengths when they arrive. It looks kinda raw right now, but after it gets carpeted and I install the plexi enclosure around the mag it should look better. Definately more pics to come.

Manufacturer specs call for 3.5 cubes, vented. I'm at 4 but have a large displacement in the amp. It's like .5 cu by it's self. It's 6" deep. After bracing and port displacement it should be close to its' specs. I'm anxious to get it covered and work on the plexi.

Inverted? Yes. That's why I chose such a sexy beast. The plexiglass enclosure will protect the sub from dust, and yet still allow viewing of its' movement. The plexi enclosure will be elevated about an inch or so from the box to allow the proper air mass movement from the sub. The motor structure was just too d@mn sexy to hid in the box!!

Logan, Temporary?? It's still in the process of completion. Berny, yes it is. The plate amp specs state that it produces 500w @ 8ohm and 1024w @ 4 ohm. The mag is rated at 950w rms so I'm sure it can handle it. It's a dual VC 2 ohm sub. All I have to do is wire it to reach the 4 ohm load.

The plexi enclosure will be built on top of the box, to enclose the sub. To keep it dust free. My d@mn cats would want to jump on in and want to f@uck with it. I can't have that.

The gap between the plexi enclosure and box will allow the air to flow when the sub bumps.

i wish i can just turn my garage in to my workshop but i really need to park my car in there so i don't have space.

i envy you guys cause you have all the tools you need to make things perfect.

when i build my boxes, i have to have home depot do the bigger cuts and i use my skill saw for the detailed cuts.

Well I got some more done the past few days. After my parts arrived I was able to continue. Carpet, ports, adhesive, and corners.UploadUpload Started carpeting. Holes were cut for the ports and installed after bottom half was completed.Upload Casters installed.Upload Carpet done. I was going to design the SI logo into the carpet on the front like the pencil drawing on the second pic but got too lazy and skipped it. Carpeting is a d@mn science and something I wasn't looking forward to with the logo.Upload
Upload Corners installed. All that is left is the plexi enclosure around the Mag and wiring it all up! Can't wait.....

Alot of ppl would question my intentions on this project. Let me clear that up. When I like something, I can't help myself but to completely immerse myself until I'm satisfied. Probably why I can relate to the guys in the sub section. It's all about EXTREME!!!!!! Best sounding HT subwoofer? H3ll no. Value for the $$$? Helllllllll no. Bragging rights for the first mag powered HT sub in my zip? Priceless!!!!!

Just for the record:
SI mag: $350
1000w plate amp: $330
MDF, carpet, ports, adhesive, casters, plexi, wire, corners, ect...$150
Total: $830 before labor.

Tell me. Who would pay $1000 for a HT subwoofer?

Oh snap!! I just did!!!

Finally finished! Not 100% what I was shooting for but I'm happy with it nonetheless. Wired the amp and sub, built the plexi box, and tested the sub out. Wow!!! The lows a 15" is capable of is nothing short of amazing!!!!! It took awhile with adjusting the amp's settings to acheive peak output but it was well worth it. My previous sub shook the walls but nothing like this. I'm very happy. Now, just what to do with my old one. Hmmmmmmmm.Upload

Lows meaning frequency. My previous sub did its' job in delivering the punch needed to expeirience the thump a HT sub can provide. What I wanted was more power. I got it!!!! What I also got was a sub capable of much lower frequencies I never heard before. All I can say is: deeeeeeeep. Yes, I'm in my happy place.

Maybe the bass is disorienting you! Maybe you could play some test tones through it (or use a frequency generator) and post your response below 27hz at lvls of 100, 105, 110 and however far your system goes dB. I like seeing the SHAKE factor below 27hz!

Well, maybe another time lol

That reminds me I still haven't checked dB levels yet with my sub. I think it's broken in now. Yeah, let's just all push a 20hz sine wave at 200k watts into our little 1" superwoofers with 50" voice coils and see how they like it!

BOOM BOOM BOOM. It's a really cool setup to me, too bad it would take up way too much space in my setup. My little Seismic 10 barely fits where I needed to put it right now! I can't wait to clear things out so it can go where it's supposed to.

Man I feel like a child.I was happy with the sound from the sub already. Then I double check my settings and gains and discover that my low pass wasn't properly set, my gain was at 25%, my eq freq was at 18hz, and my eq boost was only at a 2db gain out of 6!!! I had the game on so I started adjusting my settings. Wow!!!!!!! From the pics you can see the sub is pretty close to my tv. That may have to change. At only a 25% volume the sub was tearing my big screen apart. The screen was rattling and my picture quality dropped. Wow, what a sub! I don't dare throw any test tones at it. I'm scared.

I think the only reason my sub messes up my screen's picture quality of because it's so old lol.

So, it's a bandpass design?

No, just a simple box really, but affective. Like I said, until I readjusted the amp, I was only hearing 18hz from the sub. Pretty low. Now my gains are set right and it's tuned just right. Biggest problem I have is that there are alot of things in my gameroom/bar on shelves. Everythings shaking off!

Well, I can't. I'd do a response graph of my sub in the corner of the room but I can't get back there and I'm not going to plug it in until I get it surge protected and it's power cleaned. I think the Monster SW-200 would do. What about you?
