I'm trying to build a midrange to high end gaming computer system but I haven't been up to date lately with technology computer wise. So this is a question for those who know their material.

I want to be able to play games to their full potential. Or most of it atleast.

Amd X2 or intel core 2 duo?
GFX will be a Nvidia 7950 gx2.
1gb of Ram
HD? What kind for fast data retreival?

Trying to spend around 1000-1500 so if anyone can help that would be good. I don't need a 5000 dollar system, but I would like to keep it affordable and at the same time to play the latest games with ease.

I decided to go with a GF 7950 GT for now until the prices of the new 8800 cards drop. Reason was because the GT's are a little less expensive than the gx2 and that they perform almost as well so this should satisfy my brother in law for the time being. Because of this I decided to upgrade the ram to 2gb and it also leaves me the option to upgrade to a better motherboard and cpu. HD space isn't as important for how since theres always the option to add more. I think I was able to figure this out myself after looking around. But the only question still unanswered is amd x2 or intel core 2 duo? Which one will be better for the long run?

for hd get a sata or a internal scsi hard drive. the sata is faster than a normal HD but if you want mind blowing speed get the scsi there 10k-15k rpm vs. 7,200 rpm they install windows in less than 6min

why is it good to get a nice disk drive? isnt their main purpose just to hold the cd when you put it in there? cuz the one you showed shows like it holds music and stuff... from where does it hold this?

Thanks for the site, I'm going to buy the GFX from there. That was the gfx card I wanted in the first place also. But yeah I already decided to go with the intel core 2 duo E6600 and a Asus P5B motherboard. Also I can get the memory a little cheaper and HD was a good price from what you showed me. Thanks for the links, I'm sure to use them.

I'm buying the cpu and motherboard at Frys so I can get the two year warranty. And if I want I can take the board and cpu back and get a newer board and cpu. Although the price of that cpu and board should be hella cheap but Imma see whats up. Right now the price is about 1200 with a monitor. All I need left is a case and powersupply.
