Laptop to tv. black video screen????!!!

Hi i can connect my laptop to tv.
I see my desktop on the tv.
But when i play a movie the screen on the tv goes black. i can still see my desctop screen on the back.
It's a really big flatscreen tv.
I play through power dvd.
How do i fix this?
