2-way splitter - over the air dtv

Since we can't get cable and satellite would require major tree cutting we have to rely on over the air DTV, which in our location, gives us a very minimal signal for all 7 stations. We are using an antenna which is mounted on a long pole on the roof. We currently have only one tv hooked up to this antenna. We would like to install a 2-way splitter so we can hook up another tv. Since our reception is so bad will adding the splitter degrade the signal so that we will regret this endeavor?
