My dog chewed through the power cord of brand new portable DVD player. Luckily (I think), it was the cord that plugs in to (yet also detaches from) the big adapter. The cord says 7A 125V. I have another cord from something else that fits the connection, but says 3A 125V. Since I know nothing about volts and amps...can this other cord be used, or do I need to get another 7A 125V cord?
Even though cable specs take into account some safety margin, they should be taken seriously. The 3A/125V cable handles up to 375 Watts, compare that to DVD player and adapter max. power consumption.
If you do decide to temporarly use a non-sufficient cord, check from time to time that it is not overheating. And most important: don't leave the stuff plugged in.

Thanks for the response. The tech specs for the DVD players state:
Power consumption <= 20W Power supply DC 9V 2A
And the adapter itself says: Output 9V 2.2A
Do I still have a non-sufficient cord?
I did test the 3A cord. It operates the DVD player and also charges the battery. I cannot tell if the adapter is any more or less warm when operating than it was with the 7A cord.
