ok i hav an ipod and i recently dropped it, now it will only show the apple logo and continue on to display a file icon with an exclamation mark.along with this, it makes a weird noise. what should i do to make it work again? somebody help me please.Diamond Princess

That means the hard drive is bad. You can grab a new hard drive off ebay and replace it yourself, but I would suggest sending it in to Apple if you still have a warranty.

Does That mean that i'll lose all my songs on it because they arent on my pc

Yep...however, try freezing it and seeing if it will work again. If it does work again, you'll only have an hour or two before it thaws and the error returns.

The reason freezing it will work is because the actuator arm in the hard drive is most likely scratching the actual platter. By freezing it, the actuator arm contracts and stops touching the platter-thus making operation possible. Keep in mind it only works if the actuator arm is bad, otherwise you most likely won't be able to recover your data unless you take it apart and void your warranty.

i tried the apple support but it doesnt work John A.
When You say Freeze it Jexx, i hope u dont actually mean litterally freeze it in a freezer, i hope freeze is a technical name for something else lol.
so how do i freeze it

oh my, hav u ever frozen an ipod? im sure that cant b healthy for it once it thaws, wont the water damage the disk??

It's worked for me, actually...I would suggest using a plastic bag if you're worried about moisture damage.

i was just reading up about that and a site said that putting the ipod in a ziplok bak causes static and that dont sound too gd

If you're freezing only the hard drive, static electricity may be a problem, but you're keeping the case on it, so static electricity isn't a concern.

Refer to my second post in this thread. It's your only alternative; though you can try to sell it on ebay and get maybe 50-100$ on it.
