I just upgraded to a laptop using windows Vista. Problem is: to update my satelite receiver, I have to use a null modem cable and there are no ports on this laptop to accept. So I bought a Beslkin USB/serial adapter. Computer says that it can't find software for the adapter, so I redirect it to my files where I downloaded the driver and it still says need software. Is it possible that Vista isn't compatible with this adapter, or am I not using the right sort of adapter. There's got to be something I can get so I can download to my reciever. I also posted this on the satelite forums too.

Ebay has a bunch listed

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=USB+to+serial

as far as working with your brand of sat reciver I would look into it on some FTA forums

I have to use a USB to serial adapter to program cisco routers and it will some time add "garbage" to my config file. Nothing thats going to blow up a router but maybe an issue with the fta boxes.
