Embedding YouTube videos has been improved to show a new larger, 600 pixel width player. The embedded videos should display with HTML5 or Flash, meaning they should play on an iPhone, iPad or the latest web browsers.
The manual method has been changed to:

After you click the button "Preview/Post Message" you can see if it works prior to clicking the button "Post this Message".
Note: the backslash ( \ ) and curly braces are required { }.
