Ethernet Adapter missing

old windows xp crashed on me, installed new hard drive and windows xp home edition. When i connect ethernet from other computer it does light up so i know it is connected but i cannot use the internet, i am missing the ethernet card apparently the one i have does not work. how do i find which brand, etc of driver/card i must download? can use second computer to download to flash drive and install on xp right?
running bios v.1002
amd athlon 64 processor 3700
