From One Computer to Another

I have a Compaq Presario with Windows XP and a Compaq Presario with Windows Vista. The first computer has mpegs recorded on the hard drive. I want to transfer them to the second computer. The first one won't recognize a disc. It tells me to insert a disc after I've inserted it. I can't go thru the internet because it won't go online. I don't know why. I'm going to wipe it clean except for what was there when it came from the factory, but first I have to send those mpegs to the second computer. I don't have the manuals and I can't find them on the internet. How do I connect the computers?
