Hello, my old (7 year) computer has been extremely slow - otherwise it's still great! I thought wiping out clean my hard drive and reinstalling the OS would help but didn't. Someone said to put more memory to speed up. I had Crucial configure my requirements and they indicated my system could take up to 768MB, PC1OO OR PC133 SDRAM. My dilemma is this:

(1) I'm willing to add 256MB but these are about $30/$40 and up (+ some pretty stiff shipping) non-brand name (brand names are $50/$60 and up), and if it doesn't speed it up then it will have been money and time wasted.

(2) I'm even willing to add 512MB but the price goes up more than double!!! With the same fear in case it doesn't improve.

(3) Someone told me OfficeDepot.com had an after rebate $20 PC 256MB SDRAM...but when I contacted them it was sold out. I figured 20 bucks would've been ok to risk.

(4) Second hand ones at eBay or Craigslist wouldn't be good for me since I'm not knwoledgeable at all in tech matters and I may be buying a lemon?

I hope I'm not wasting anyone's time as it looks like a dilemma with no solution...However, would anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks ever so much! Adela

Did you end up getting a new computer or did you do an upgrade?
