PROB: Using JVC MBR remote for TV

Hi. I have a JVC MBR remote control (PQ11534) for my JVC VCR. I have just bought a second hand TV which is also a JVC. The last owner also had a JVC VCR and was using her VCR remote control with the TV. I assumed all JVC VCR remotes would work with all JVC TV's. But I don't have any manuals and am having great difficulty in using the MBR remote for both items.

TV : JVC AV-21TEAU
VCR: JVC HR-J827MS

I am also looking for some form of manual for this device for a friend, as they have about 5 remotes for their bits and were looking to reduce the number of remotes they have to use, all I need to know is if this remote has a programming feature, especially an manual/auto scan through feature???
