The iPhone 5c is arguably Apple’s worst new product launch in the last 5 years, but not because it was a bad smartphone. The problem has more to do with timing and choice. The iPhone 5c debuted in September 2013 along side the new and improved, faster iPhone 5s. While both iPhones had the same size screen, the 5s was a step up from the previous generation iPhone 5, and the 5c was essentially a cheaper, colorful, plastic version of last year’s model.
The iPhone 5c originally sold for $100 less than the 5s, but it eventually became free with two-year contract when initial demand waned. Nobody wanted last year’s Apple iPhone re-colored, when they could get the better iPhone 5s or the larger screened Android phones hitting the market. In retrospect, the biggest mistake Apple made in 2013 was not producing a larger screen iPhone. Of course, they eventually corrected the mistake a year later with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus releases, but by that time Apple had relinquished the market to Samsung’s Note 3, Note 4, Galaxy S4, and Galaxy S5 phablets and smartphones.
In this funny, animated video, the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Apple iPhone 6 smartphones take turns ridiculing the iPhone 5c. As always, let us know what you think in the comments. We hope you like it, and let us know what other products you’d like to see shamed.
