The typical phono outputs are there to connect to my existing amp however it came with a flat cable (To Amp) which is probably its power source. Not sure what to do with it, there's seem to be NO WAY to power it up. I ca connect to my amp alright, but how to power it??? Please advise |

New member Username: JeffaPost Number: 1 Registered: May-08 | On the back of the RS-X102 tape deck it clearly states that it needs 25 Volts AC power. This is normally supplied through the flat cable from a matching Technics Amplifier. The RCA cables have nothing to do with the power, they are purely for the audio signals. I have several of these tape decks, but no matching amplifiers. I purchased some 24 volt AC plug pack power supplies thinking I could get the tape decks working, but when I connected one up it wouldn't power on at all. I've since found out that there is some kind of switching signal coming down the flat cable from the amplifier. There is no on/off button on the tape deck. It has to be powered on from the amplifier. BUT maybe it is possible to bypass this function and somehow make it so the tape deck turns on whenever it gets power (from an external source like the 24 volt ac plug packs I purchased). The tape deck also has 3 x 3.5mm control input and output connections on the back. These are for relaying commands from a cordless remote that actually comes with the matching AM/FM Tuner. I have one of these tuners and remote, but sadly no amplifier. You can buy a service manual for the RS-X102 from "user-manuals.com" for $14.95, but it probably won't explain how to get the unit powered from any other power source other than the matching amplifier. If anyone can help with a suitable technical solution and wiring diagram please let me know. |

I've just bought a second-hand RS-X320 tape deck with matching amp (SU-X320) but no connecting power cable. It unuseful that a lot of part suppliers on the web don't supply proper descriptions of the parts they're selling - just a part/model number and price. I've been scouring the internet to at least find the part number for the cable. No luck so far, but I have found a service manual for the amp and purchased it. I hoping the manual will have the part number of the required cable. So I'm just waiting to download the manual - I'll keep you informed. |

The owner's manual and service manual are available there. I suspect the Panasonic version of the manuals are the same as the Technics versions. The User/Operating Manuals are available else where on the web for free download - but they don't have the part number of the connector power cable. Like I said, I'm hoping the service manual has the part number which will help with my problem at least. |

It came with a Technics tuner and a CD player so I didn't inspect it before as precisely as I should. Anyway I was lucky enough to have it with the three-pole cable supplied. When I get a 24VAC power supply from my friend, I will test it with the deck. This model actually has a power on/off button, which seems to be good news (it's euro version, on the back reads "RS-X102E-K"). I will let you know what (if anything) happens. |

Sometimes the deck powers up even without pressing the power on/off button, sometimes it has to pressed first. The deck just flashes all the digits and symbols (play, rec etc) in the screen. Nothing happens when Play, Rec etc buttons are pressed. The digits and symbols flash from a few seconds to several minutes. Then the deck turns off. I found this: http://www.hifi-pictures.net/cassette%20deck/Technics%20RS-X102/cassettedeck.htm In the last picture is shown that there is three wires coming from the 24V power supply. I'm just wondering what is the third is (as usually there are two, like mine has). Also the wiring order is a mystery for me (I checked the lower side of the circuit board, there were no markings). I think solving this should get the deck working (unless it's broken). I mailed the site author 18 Mar, no answer received so far. Any info/hint is highly appreciated! |

J' ai pense a cette hypothese car les moteurs sont en 12 volts chacun. il suffit donc d' alimenter les 2 canaux de 12 volts en parrallele. The flat 3 way cable needs 10- 12v AC input as you would get from a mains transformer between the centre wire and the 2 outer wires. A transformer output of 9-0-9 Volts AC at 7Watts is suitable, I have converted my own. The transformer will have 4 output connections, normally they are in line so 0 0-----------0 0 you need to connect the outer 2 of the 3 wires of the input to the tape unit to the extreme left and right connections, you then join the inner 2 as shown by the dotted line and connect the middle wire to that link. You should have the black wire with the stripe to one of the outer connections it doesn't matter which. Simply connecting a 24V AC supply between the outer 2 wires will produce odd results as the centre of the transformer needs to be connected to the middle ground wire hence the need for 2 output windings each half of the total 24volts ac. The reason 909 will work is that the 9v will be greater than 9 with the low current demand from the deck. Mine was about 11 0 11 measured with the deck powered. The transformer is quite small and I have mounted mine on the rear panel of the deck inside. YOU SHOULD ONLY ATTEMPT THIS IF COMPETENT ELSE FIND A MAN THAT CAN. |

I went up to 12-0-12, and that worked perfectly, although the voltage is nearer 28 than 25. (The back panel says 15 W, the transformer I used is rated 10 VA: RS Components Stock no. 121-3847.) This matches Despres experience. |

But rewinding works OK both directions. Any idea how to fix that? |
