I am looking to make a major purchase of a flat pannel TV. I want a 40-42 inch screen. My main viewing is DVDs and sports. I will for now be running Directv Tivo older unit not HD, but would like to go to HD in future. What do you all suggest and why?

thanks gordon

I heard from people in the video/tv biz that I should go with an lcd tv because plasmas have to be recharged every couple of years and that it is expensive.

LCDs( flat screens) can get uneven brightness when any of the flourescent bulbs burn out or dim. Uneven LCD screens can be thought of as an LCD form of burn in.

Interestingly, a store owner who sells Fujitsu plasmas says that as long as plasmas dont get dead or stuck pixels early on, they usually wont get them for the life of the plasma. Not sure if this is true or not. At time to half brightness of 30,000-100,000 hours, plasma screens will likely be replaced before they reach half brightness. At 4 hours of viewing a day, that would be like 20 years for the 30,000 hour plasmas at the low end.
