Right now from my DVD player's Digital Out to my DD receiver's digital audio in I am using a standard RCA cable's yellow video connector and it works, or maybe I should use one of the audio red or white connectors.

Should I really pay $20 for a cable?

I did, and I noticed a subtle improvement. No hocus-pocus, a brand cable may have better connectors (tighter fit, gold plating), better shielding and keep stricter to 75 Ohm spec. But don't expect miracles...

Yes Daniel, you do need a "digital" coaxial cable to connect your dvd players "coaxial digital out" to your "coaxial digital in" on your surround reciever/processor for DD/DTS. See my posting "Digital coax same as RCA". E.Ramsey AAS industrial electronics
