Papery sounding sub

i think i blew one of my subs but im not an expert thats why im asking you guys. it sounds papery and my amp goes into protect mode when i turn the volume up. is there any way to fix a damaged sub and how much would it cost if i took it to a professional?

for the price of fixing the sub, you're better off buying a new one...as for your amp going into protection mode...its possible that your subs are wired to an ohm load that your amp doesnt like so when you turn it up your subs want more power, but your amp doesnt have it...

or he switched the positive with the negative...that has happened to me before and it does have that papery sound till you switch it back so check all your connections and make sure you didnt wire it wrong, as for the amp i have no clue besides that your ohm load is off
