I got my first car recently and my family and I are having to fix it up. I've been looking around but I'm definetly not very experienced with this stuff. I have 2 door truck so I can only do 1 sub preferably a 12 inch. I need to plane the sub under the seat so it can't be super deep either. I also need to stay around the $500 mark without the box. If I could I'd like something that hits pretty hard but still has decent sound quality. I don't want it to sound like crap. I'm open to any suggestions.

It's a 1972 Chevy c20. There's not a single speaker in it right now.

Haha well I would suggest to get a good HU, then install some good door speaks after sound deadening your door panels, floor, ceiling, back wall. (second skin or similar product)because that truck is gonna rattle like the cookie monster having a siezure. But if you want advice for subs, I would go with 2 10s.

2x10 = 157 square inches of cone area (winner)
1x12 = 113

2 Sundown SA 10s can handle 1200 WRMS at least per pair and will need only 1 cubic foot for sealed box. 6" mounting depth will put your overall depth around 7" with 3/4 MDF wood. Or if you really want a fun project, you could go ported and use 1-1.25 cubes. Would be louder. Of course, these dimensions are internal. You would need to add wood thickness and sub/port displacement which would give you your external dimensions. We would need to know your max external dims to better recommend a sub/subs. U can see the SA 10s here http://sundownaudio.com/index.php/products/subwoofers/item/sa-series.html?catego ry_id=2 And here are some for sale here for $240 for 2x10s http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/10-subwoofers/130312-2-sundown-sa-d4s.h tml

ooh but these Fi SSD 10s look good too...http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/forum/10-subwoofers/137230-fs-4-10-fi-ssds-su bwoofers.html

I HIGHLY SUGGEST you sound deaden every sq" of that truck that you can. Product is called constrained layer dampener (CLD). Search EBAY for dynamat and get the no-name thickest you can. Dynamat is WAY overpriced. I would also sugget sound blocker (mass-loaded vinyl)= MLV to block road noise and engine noise. Read up on it here right here http://sounddeadenershowdown.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi

Will make the truck way luxurious, trust I

Yeah I read about the sundown sa but I'm not sure I could afford an amp powerful enough for them. I've read the hifonics brutus 1200.1 is a decent amp. Would it work well for the sundown subs? And I'll make sure and deaden the cab as much as possible.

2 10's wouldn't drown out the rest of the music would it? Sorry if that's a dumb question.

I have no experience with the Brutus, But overall, I have heard that it is a decent amp. Better choices could be had for the same price though. check out CACO.org and do some research on the amps you find. or ask us haha. And you will not NEED to push 1200 wrms if you can not afford a big amp. Just get a smaller one. Your electrical system probably could not handle 1200 wrms anyway. voltage drop is BAD

What are some of the better amps you were talking about?

I have heard better things about this one. Again, no personal experience. How much that brutus gonna cost?

In an old truck deadening will be necessary for sure, you will need to measure your dimensions for a box behind and below the seats to see what fits, do this before buying the subs. Form Sundown the SD-2 series can be used for difficult installations.

I've been looking at door speakers now and I've been interesested in these. But I've been wondering if I would need an external amp for them even though I am going to buy a new head unit.http://http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Alpine---6-1/2%22-2-Way-Component-Car-Speaker s-with-Poly-Mica-Cones-(Pair)/1807251.p;jsessionid=91A0D6CA5F0ED0D711734FAA5339C B0B.bbolsp-app01-69?skuId=1807251&productCategoryId=pcmcat223000050011&id=121829 3491912
