Hey people that know what Ive been messing around with the skar 12"s. I made another box and plan on doing a single 12 with aero ports and see how it sounds. But I need some help figuring out how thats calculated and whats the difference between a slot and a port. The new box is ~1.73 cubes a/d and Im looking at either 30 or 36 hz with 4in pvc, Id appreciate the help and knowledge.

Dual 4" x 13" aeros on 1.73 cuft will tune you to 49Hz in the most horrible way but probably you would score a SPL record.

Upload

(almost) a one note burping machine!

They recommend 36Hz so go for that if you want but not much higher.

If I lived by competitions I would definitely do it, but sadly I dont... :'(

Yea Im messing with the psp tool trying to figure something out. I know Ill prolly need to 4" but I only have 30 or so inches to work with. I guess I can do one 4in and hopefully the air velocity from the skar isnt bad.

Its 28 inches for 2 4inch..great

Ok so here are one aero ported enclosure design and one slot ported both feature dual layer baffle face (for flush mounting) and both are 1.73@36Hz:

First off the 4" aero does not pass the Va/Vb rule: 12.56/1.73 = 7.263 and should be at least 9 but anyways:

Upload

I would recommend a ~5" minimum aero port diameter.

And here is the familiar slot ported option:

Enclosure Specifications:

Fb = 36 Hz
Vb = 1,73 ft^3

External Height = 15 in
External Width = 19,13 in
External Depth = 20 in

Port Width = 2 in

Cut List:

* All Dimensions in Inches.
* Wood Thickness is 3/4 for all Parts.

External Enclosure Parts:

Front = 16 3/8 x 13 1/2
Front Internal = 15 5/8 x 13 1/2
Back = 19 1/8 x 13 1/2

Left & Right Sides:
Side 1 = 18 1/2 x 13 1/2
Side 2 = 17 3/4 x 13 1/2

Top & Bottom = 19 1/8 x 20

L Port Internal Assembly Parts:

Front to Back = 16 1/2 x 13 1/2
Extension = 7 1/8 x 13 1/2

Almost the Skar recommendation and it stinks with a 10.4dB peak at 38.4 Hz but at least be loud..

Upload

I don't recommend either but in the name of testing I guess it's ok.

I have another one, prolly going to invert it and make it 2 ohms take it easy on this one.
Yea thats what happen. But in theory I think it was the power I was giving it. I ran a sax 1200d at 0.5 ohm. Way more then whats rated for a skar 12.

Recones are available for $45 + shipping I've learned, in case you want to go that route with the blown Skar.

Uhhh, well it seems it cooked slowly it was not like a burp blow, at some point the coil detached and jammed, this sort of failure besides the extra power ocurrs due to poor ventilation, one thing that usually is done is to use high port area and aiming the end of the port to the motor of the sub. And also using the subsonic filter can prevent this sort of thing.

The whole sub has to be throughly cleaned looking for the remaining debris before reconing.. also can be pretty tricky to get a recone right...
