How long of a port is too long?

Is 40" too long for 2.5 cubes, 16" of port per cube? It comes out to 30.5 Hz. Port area 2.75 x 14.5.

Nope not too much. Only thing with alot of port like 16 per cu ft is if your after higher bass its not a great way to achieve what you want.
Normally if your going to use that much port it would be to be tuned low and get a huge peak around your tuning but steeply roll off at higher frequencies
basically if you want lows its going to be a huge box because of the large port. And that also helps with impedience rise as well not being so steep.

If you want higher bass you don't want as much port and want to keep the internal volume smaller.
