I'm bored as f-ck in the airport waiting for my flight and just thought of Secret Santa. Is anyone here interested in doing it again this year? I know a lot of us have left the site or don't use it too often but I'll organize it again this year if I can gather up enough people.

I know it's only October btw, I'm just bored and figured I'd test the waters for any hits.

I might be in this year, just depends on how things are going in another month. Whats the normal price range? Any certain types of gifts: only car audio- anything- etc?

We, or I, set the price at $50 a couple years back. And the gifts can be anything that you think the person you are chosen to send to, might like. Last year they made "want lists" but I think this thing is much better suited to surprise...

And again, thanks Yanks for all you do for this.

You inspire me to start up my annual Turkey day event. I haven't begun it yet and time is running out.

Yeah Paul is right... I just set the price a few years back because I thought $20 was a waste of time. This is 100% John's deal, and as some of you may remember, I sent him some special items to thank him for the time he puts in and the great job he has done.

Confirmed addresses and at least a B+ trust rating. I think Yanks had a one year minimum membership in order to enter.

Deadbeats get a surprise sent from Canaan.

And it's nice to get suggestions on tastes and hobbies. Gift cards have been deemed off limits and try to be a little creative. No waiting until Dec 23rd to ship either. That time of year requires 2 weeks minimum. Also, GET delivery confirmation. It's a $.70 option with USPS and gets YOU off the hook should your gift go astray. Insurance is recommended. Once shipped email Yanks the confirmation #. I don't know many of you fools anymore so if I need assistance in what rings your bell, give it.

I'm not going to mention any names but we have had some VERY surprising twists from some members in the past on various occasions. Seems even membership status/account age really doesn't prove anything. Those here long enough know what I speak of.

If you've never sold anything to anyone here or don't have refs then it's going to be hard to trust you. Lurkers who may have been here long enough but have few post counts fall into that category as well IMO. No offense to anyone but the LAST thing we need is another year like JK experienced.

Unless (and this is just talking out my ass) you want to participate through a surrogate member. Say a new member wants to participate. He/she would need to team up with another "established" member. It would be up to the new member to pay his "big brother" for his Secret Santa gift. Once done the surrogate would notify his recipient to ship their gift to him/her. Obviously this leaves the burden of buying/shipping said gift from the new member up to the surrogate.

Sound like too much to follow lol?

Ehh, it was just a suggestion.

I'm willing to be a "big brother".

I really don't think I can top the first year of the Ecoustics SS. I thru that little curve ball in there and it just set precedent that may never be topped.

I'm gonna try though. Just gotta think it over.

btw...who was it that received my little gift that year?
I can't remember.
And more importantly...why were pics not posted?

Gifts must be an actual tangible item.

If I remember correctly, the year of the poo...the real gift I sent was 3 nice 18ft quad shielded RCA's, dash mountable voltage meter, heavy 1/0ga ANL fuse holder (maybe 2 can't remember, and a pair of DD EarbuDDs.

Gifts don't have to be car audio stuff. That is why we started a wish-list thread.

And last year, we banned cases of onkyo tweets...lol
I still have over 1200pr left.

Glad to hear. The knives were just a throw in as icing on the cake.

I use one that I've been using daily for almost 3 years and never had to adjust tension or even sharpen the blade yet.

I'm pondering over holding a free drawing here for an assortment of my inventory for Xmas. Mind you THAT could be quite a handful of knives lol. I've since added inventory since my last pic which you see here.

WOW!! This is not the responses I was expecting. I've been dealing with a lot of sh!t (I'll save you all the sob story) but I'll get the ball rolling on this once things slow down later this week.

This is great to see everyone still is up for it!!

I'll be the deciding factor when it comes to who is good and who is not.

Looking forward to another good year guys

Eric gave me an idea Yanks... you could choose -- let's say 6 -- of the "newer" people that will post in this ad and pair them up with each other. That way, extra people could join in this without the risk of a "regular" (regular meaning either someone that has been on E forever and everyone knows them, or someone from our group in chat, which I consider the core of SS) member getting stiffed on a gift.

And also, these newer people that want in will most likely come through when sending to another newer member, for the simple reason that they want to be deemed trustworthy and eligible for future Secret Santa's. Just an idea...

The 'buddy' idea looks good. Maybe offer the new comers to paypal $ and shopping list to a 'made-man' here on E.

They just have a week earlier cutoff to send full E-SS $ and the made-man buys/ships it.
$50+shipping minimal (as usual).
But they must send the $50 minimal in paypal to an OG within 48hrs of being partnered up w/ them????maybe?

I'm willing to be a big brother if this flies.

Edit...

I flirted with that idea last year actually Brad. We had a few guys who didn't quite fir the bill but were still active enough to "appear" legit but I still had to tell them sorry.

I tell you what we can do, regulars are obviously in. For the new comers who we aren't too familiar with right now but want to join in with us, what we will do is see how many sign up who fit that category and then do a "Group B" in Secret Santa. Of course, in this Group B, I will not allow anyone, but I will go person by person to see if people are legit. When I ask for emails, and I'll explain this again in the official thread coming in a few days, I will ask for your name, address, AND threads on here or CA/CACO/CSF or wherever else you post which will have references for you. Word of mouth is not good enough and I will want physical evidence. If you're username is different on those sites and I can't tell it's you, I will PM you on there to allow you to respond to make sure it's legit and you aren't just pulling someone else's references.
