the Valentine One has done this for at least ten years now :-)

The Escort 8500 is probably my second choice for a detector.

I've had quite a few Bel models, always their top of the line, and I've had a lot of them fail, stop working, fall apart, etc.. the sounds they generate aren't very distinctive, and their range isn't that good.
But still, they are better than nothing at all, for sure.

numerous tests have been done, and the valentine one has come in 3rd in the tests, behind #2 a beltronics, and behind the #1 detector the Escort Passport 8500. ive researched detectors many times thoroughly, and without a doubt the passport is the best. valentine one is NOT the best, so you can put your hands back up, and to add to top it off, it costs even more than the passport and beltronics, at a cost of $400.

Damn, Kevin and Glass be going at it like a some little kids. I'm going to have to agree with Glass on this one though. The V1 is the best detector out there. All the sites and studies I've seen has the V1 on top of the Passport and the BEL, but not by much. The biggest feature of the V1 is that it tells you which direction the radar is coming at and how many. Lets see any other detector do that.

The V1 blows the 8500 away. I've owned them both, but the 8500 went on eBay about a month after I got it.

Best range in real road situations this year (2004) was awarded to the Escort X50 at 2 1/2 miles for both instant on and constant Radar modes. At this far out neither Bel nor the Valentine detectors picked up a signal. The Valentine detector also failed to pick up POP mode Radar at 1,000 and 500 feet distances while the Escort X50 and Bel did detect it. Both detectors cloaked against VG2 effectively (even though VG2 isnt made anymore it is now spectre 1, 2, and 3). The escort X50 was fully stealth to VG2 and Spectre 3 while also showing superior detection distances to Spectre 1 & 2 over the Valentine (which was not stealth to spectre 3) and the bel detectors. All detectors FAILED to pick up laser when aimed at the front targeting zone of the vehicles.

Bottom line both Valentine and Escort X50 are awesome detectors and both will provide radar detection with ample warning time. The Valentine did how ever fail in POP mode radar detection.

- Speed Labs Testing

[Note] Speed labs uses ONLY police officers professionally trained to operate speed detection equipment to get rid of any bias possibility. NO ONE part of Speed Labs ever touches a Radar/Laser gun or RDD while testing Radar/Laser/VG2 detectors.

Ok people, you need to know that the companies that make the radar detectors make radar detector detector for the cops! How stupid is that? I used to own 8500, it wasn't the best. The stupid cops used the detector made by Escort to detect 8500 to catch me! Those freaking losers should be banned. What's the point of making a radar detector if you're going to supply the cops with something that'll beat it? I never knew that when I bought my 8500 crap. It is not stealthy like they claim, cops know you have it. Did you also know that 8500 is very old??? It came out 4-5 years ago. Cops have better toys now to fight 8500 old technology.

the 8500 X50 is reprogrammable for updating.
anyway, the radar guns have always been made by the same companies as the detectors. It's part of the came. welcome to capitalism. It's how they sell new models of detectors.
The trick is having the detectors before the police departments can afford to buy new guns, or the car insurance companies can donate the new ones (which they do, by the way.)
that's life.
Thankfully I live in a rural area, and I pick up cops long before I'm in range of their guns anyway. I don't honestly care if they know I use a detector or not as long as I don't speed past them like a moron and get pulled over.

In reality, most cops still use X band always on, or K band instant on anyway. At least in Virginia they all used K band always-on, and here where I live now, it's all K band instant on. They can't afford new cars, let alone anything else. heh

I personally had Escort 8500 radar detector. It was alright but I wouldn't say it's the best. I would like to test the Valentino one though. From what I read it sounds interesting. At least it's not like the Escort that plays double agent or I could be wrong.
Escort 8500 is useless against a laser, trust me, I had a cop point it at me and it didn't even go off! What a $300 garbage toy. In Canada, most cops use laser, very few use the good old X band. Maybe it's cause we pay too much tax!!! The cops seem to have all the high tech toys before us.
Oh did I tell you we have cop cars that look EXACTLY like a normal car? It goes around looking for radar detectors. Talk about wasting tax payer's money! Unlike there in the states, it's illegal in Canada. So I'm sure those guys have a really busy day cruising around all day looking for phantom radars.
Anyways the point is, against lasers, I haven't found anything that I can honestly say it works.

read the reviews.

Isaac, it's pretty well known that 'lidar detection' is pretty pointless due to the narrow beam radius.
however, there are lidar jammers that will drastically reduce the range of a lidar gun that work well in conjunction with a good detection system for X, K, and Ka bands.

Once you've had the directional indicators there is no going back.
The fit and finish on the Valentine one is superior too.

They are both great radar detectors; I myself don't fancy the directional arrows (I slow down each time anyway). Here in NY there are security systems that trigger X, K, KA, and even Laser so it really isn't good or to accurate here (not to mention piggies are pretty much hanging out of the trees and hit you in every direction they can with every type of speed measurement device)...

Hey kevin,
What's up? I can not believe you are back, I have not seen you in so long... Your a fu**ing idiot now that I have your attention. The Valentine One is easily the best radar detector. Here is a fu**ing newsflash for you, what you read in car and driver that says it is #3 is a paid advertisment or if you are referring to the article from a few years back, it was staged. My cousin used to work for them.
So go fu** yourself and stop reading biased sources.

yes, radartest.com IS A BIASED review.

I have had the 8500 and bought the V1 a few years ago. To me it is better, andf I like the multiple readings. this has saved me a few times at shopping centers that I frequently pass.

Downfalls to the V1... If you are in a shopping center and on mute, it will drive you CRAZY with the multiple signals fading and coming back. They also need a "No X" choice. That would be nice as it is on the 8500.

i dont even use a radar detector

most of the cops around here use a system called VASCAR or something like that. my friend is a cop and told me about it. most radar detectors cant even detect it

that is correct, radar detectors can not see it, because it is based upon human input in to a computer. VASCAR stands for Visual Average Speed (something something.. cant remember the ending). It is HIGHLY inaccurate and can be won in a court much easier than laser or radar from what I understand.

scramblers and anything from that rocky mountain radar company are a scam, unless you're paying at least $1200+ per band for the scrambler, and then they're illegal to own or operate.

The best detector can be subjective. Different detectors pickup different bands better than the other. For instance, I lived in jersey, i have the escort passport 7500 and it worked great...saved me lots of times becuase the cops used KA bands and nothing else really...but when it came out, laser just came out so it was vague...I moved out to NY now and all the cops use laser and nothing else. Laser can't be used when you moving so your pretty much dead if they shoot you. So i'm due for an upgrade where they made much improvement to the laser band detection..So talk to people in your town to see what kind of band or bands the cops are using and make your choice based on that.

the V1 was the best for years.. the 8500 X50 is better, but came out much later as well, as this stuff changes all the time.
You're dredging up a thread that's months old.

Hang on now all, let us not get into a tizzy. Mrlettucehead is here to help.

Now, neither the the V1 nor the 8500 X50 is the best. No radar really works perfectly, and I would advise all to get one made by Emerson or Daewoo, these fu*kers really know how to make microwaves so their radar detectors must kick assssss!

I will tell you what, I am so impressed by the short time it takes to cook a chicken part I will share a story with you all.

First off, the best radar is the one that caught the "uniburper" who was pulled over in eastern Maine, not because if his lack of radar thingy or another but really the guy was a complete buthole. You can see the whole story here:
http://www.tafkam.com/uni.html

Anyhoo, the p_rick was caught with not only a Valentine AND and Escort radar detector, but also an unsafe 12 volt ciggy plug in thingy extender that let him plug his laptop PC into the lighter and let him run it all the way to rest area restrooms BUT also some transcripts of this thread, which the judge dismissed in favor of Sansui. If that don't make sense I donno what does.

Just trying to help,
'Lettuce

running two detectors in the same car will cause both to false and be unusable. the circuitry used to detect radar, produces a harmonic of the same frequency it's trying to detect, and the second detector will pick up on that and false as a result.

go back to the cabbage farm.

Hello,

I have Valentine One radar detectors in both my cars and Valentine One has kept them current with upgrades since they first came out. I took a chance and installed an ESCORT SRX with Laser Shifting is my S2000. The ESCORT finds radar when the Valentine One fails. I keep the Valentine One to tell me which direction the Radar is.

The only difference is big dollars for the better detector.

Now, I am only giving opinion here. Dodge, Ford, Chevy. It is all preference I believe. I have been a long time fan of the Escort as I own an x50 and an SR7 with the ZR3 shifter (installed in my wifes car to eliminate the need to remove every night), and have owned about 20 Valentines (buying and reselling). Upon using the Valentines for a bit, I always would end up back to my Escort x50. But recently I purchased the latest Valentine with POP and the latest firmware. I have been so impressed with this latest model, I sold my X50 just yesterday to use this Valentine in my car. I do love the X50 and its range, but the arrows help a great deal. Another point to make is turning off the X band on either model helps immensely, and increasing the sensitivity of Ka on the Valentine are a couple options I always use on any radar detector which allows you to defeat bands.

Companies who offer a no ticket guarantee with their detectors are not always the best ones www.ftalife.com! And every website I have ever heard say that are the ones who sell the Rocky Mountain Radar (aka P.O.S). The only selling point they have is just this. Charge $300-$400 for a cheap detector that doesn't work, then when the idiot who bought one gets a ticket, RMR may pay for that ticket (and I stress the word "may"), will only be obligated to pay only up to 15 mph over the limit. This may cost them $100 or so but they have made $200-$300 for useless piece of plastic with lights inside of it. It is all just a scam which they are profiting highly off of. K-40 I understand offer a guarantee similar and Blinder does with their m-20/m-40 laser jammer and I hear these are great products, but the RMR detectors are garbage.

I've been in the market for a radar detector for quite some time and done alot of research online for and found this site http://www.radarbusters.com/support/speedlabs-2006/default.asp
the testing and reviews seem unbiased and they just finished their testing reports for 06.

Heres a summary they say the top performers are the bel rx65 and the escort 8500 x50 which are very similiar because escort bought out beltronics. Then next is the valentine one then the bel sti because they are more expensive and have some features that aren't necessary. The V1 has directional arrows and the Sti supposedly defeats all radar detector detectors which isn't needed in states where radar detectors are legal.

*This is just some information I've read and certainly not from my first hand knowledge of these detectors. Just thought I'd pass this info along

As soon as anyone else states an opinion in here or even remotely disagrees a bit with him he instantly flies off the handle and insists that his beliefs are the only ones that are right. If that doesn't work he will attack your grammer or spelling mistakes. Someone like this probably got beat up lots as a child, and its not his fault that his Dad used to hold his head under water in the bath tub after his Mom sh1t in it! Its ok GW there are places you can go talk about it!!!

The top three are the Escort 8500, V1, and the Bel RX 65.

Hey, now the Escort 9500i sits as top dawg on the list. It offers GPS capability allowing fewest false alarms. Now instead of cutting down sensitivity to eliminate falses, they raise it and you can disable false alerts as you pass them. Not to mention the ability to mark a common "hotspot" police like to sit. #1 as technology evolves.

I bought a Beltronics Pro RX65 about 5 years ago when I bought my new car and its still going strong. This radar detector, combined with smart driving has kept me from getting a speeding ticket in this period of time.

From 5 years of experience, I really couldn't imagine that the Valentine or the Passport could have better performance than the RX65 and for $220 shipped brand new (I bought it for the same price 5 years ago off ebay) I don't see why anyone would go with anything else.

If anything were to happen to mine I wouldn't hesitate buying another one.

In response to the Passport 9500ix ability to reduce false alarms with GPS, I would be uncomfortable with this device to filter out a real speed trap in a spot that usually has false alarms. I'd rather use my brain to filter out false alarms than to trust this device to do it for me. Not to mention the "marking a hot spot", wouldn't that just create even more false alarms?

With the Beltronics Pro RX65 on City mode I barely get any false alarms anyway, though it might be different where you live.
