Gold Member Username: Kpa2727Old Bridge, NJ USA ! Post Number: 1618 Registered: May-07 | It's very nice but unless i missed it , do you have anything about how to build a box to a woofers specs? like i'm considerng going with a kappa perfect sub sealed after having a type - r ported. Outside of asking a favor of blue prints , i don't have a clue to start other then measureing my car. i don't know how to calculate the cubic feet and reach my measurements to build the box. so a page about that would be just golden. |

Platinum Member Username: GlasswolfPost Number: 13574 Registered: Dec-03 | There is a lot of software out there to help figure out the box specs, material cuts, etc. To name a few: Avi loudspeaker bassbox pro and xover pro blaubox calc3d cutlist dosbox loudspeaker lab lspcad mobile designs perfect box speaker pro speaker simulator thiele trans line unibox xls file for ms works but it wont open under windows 7 winisd winsub Here as well, is a link to a webpage that does it all for you, too. This page incidentally, is why I haven't written one myself. Perry already did the hard work: basic enclosure calculations http://www.bcae1.com/spboxnew2.htm how to carpet a box http://www.bcae1.com/carpetenclosure.htm fiberglassing a box http://www.bcae1.com/fibrglas.htm |

Platinum Member Username: GlasswolfPost Number: 13627 Registered: Dec-03 | haha thanks Paul tell me what you think of this page here, and anything I could add to it, or taht you'd like to add or correct. It seemed to be one that will apply to a lot of threads. http://www.glasswolf.net/papers/spkrsize.html really it's for any common misconceptions on subs, or anything that comes up frequently. May add a paragraph on SVC vs DVC and what the differences are (electrically and for wiring versatility.) that's the only that that pops to mind. |
Silver Member Username: JbpittPittsburgh, Pa. Usa Post Number: 404 Registered: Jul-09 | GW,do you have anything written up or have any thoughts about wiring one coil in a dvc sub? Seems like alot of car audio shops around here do it an seem to not have any problems with it. Ive tried it before for a short period of time and it didnt seem like it affected the preformance of the sub(that i could hear anyway) Ive heard several different opinons on this an was wondering what you thought. |
Platinum Member Username: GlasswolfPost Number: 13647 Registered: Dec-03 | well in short here's the deal with wiring a single coil on a DVC sub: you won't damage anything, first of all. you're limited in power handling to the rating on the one coil alone of course. the electrical characteristics of the sub will be altered for some of the specs due to the change in impedance, which can be picked out pretty easily by going through the T/S parameters quickly or just asking the sub manufacturer for the specs if only a single coil is used. This will matter when building the proper box mainly, if you're going for a box that depends heavily on TS specs, like a quarter-wave, or bandpass box. really you won't hurt anything, you just take a hit in power handling. |

Silver Member Username: JbpittPittsburgh, Pa. Usa Post Number: 406 Registered: Jul-09 | Thanks Glass. Yea,Ive heard alot of different things about it an just wasnt sure if it would cause any damage over a period of time. The only time i ever did it was just to get a the final ohm load i needed. Thanks again |
