I want to try that, but where does the actually port start when you are deciding port length. I am guessing from where it starts to flare out is the "end" of the port??

i was reading TTB and in thier archieves it says caddy corners do not boost spl and take away from the port volume...so thats a no go...

i used the flare as part of the ports lenght

thanks guys for all the positive feedback

go read the TTB thing again. it doesnt help SPL but helps with achieving a flatter response. so if this box is for SQL thats what you want. also, common sense should have told you that every TTB box youve seen has caddy corners ;)

caddy corner, yuck. Sounds kinda... "sweet".

45's in the corners of either the box or the port may or may not help... it depends on the size, tuning, port area, vehicle, placement, power, and your desired freq response.

45's generally DO help spl, albeit very marginally and nothing you could ever hear... at least in all but the most specific cases.

Just like resin has its place... 45's have theirs.

How do you make the bend like that? I know the wood doesnt just bend... it would snap, do you place a board on a angle then sand\putty it?

its called "kerf" cutting. You run a bunch of cuts most of the way through the board at a specific distance apart (depending on the desired radius of the bend). Larger radius= more width between cuts. Then you can fill the kerf cuts with wood glue, resin, whatever makes you happy and it sturdy (fill beofre bending and smear the ooze over the rest of the back).

On the 45s... they can help in certain situations and in general are not bad prcatice to use (yet to see a proper one hurt). Same goes for resining things too.

Thanks,
Scott

Dave, i just frequented the hexibase forum... you cant even beat a pair of RE8s you pune! petes hittin 147.1 and your highest score was 146.2 but when i saw you you hit 145.3 or sumin lol.... I'm jus messin with ya lol. but go check it out. he built a SPL hellboy. he thinks if he switches the Re8s with the Rlis he might gain around 2db... thats sick... but that design is no good for daily... his daily SQL setup with the rli 8s is hittin 144.8 though. thats baddass

How would you calculate how far apart each cut would need to be for the bend? ANd how wide each cut would need to be, and how deep? Could i use a radial saw and just have it cut like 1\2way into a 3\4" MDF board? Place them about 1\2 apart?
