Hey guys,

Do you think it would be worth it to get a flatwind($20) or copper($5) coil on a 15" Fi SSD?

I know the copper coild is a nice little SQ booster, and for $5 how can you go wrong?

Im not exactly sure what the flatwind does, so if somebody could explain that to me, as well as recomend it or not, it would be grand.

Thanks.

right from there site:
Flatwind does add a little more power handling to the sub, not too mention that they are a larger OD coil and it will increase the motor strength.
Copper coil adds a little more bottom end to things in the SSD. It changes the drivers specs (as copper is less resistive than aluminum and signifcantly heavier) allowing it to be rn in smaller enclosures. For the SSD, it is a little louder down low and somewhat smoother than the standard aluminum coils.

Haha alright, looks like i'll add them on. Plus being able to say Fi SSD fully loaded is worth the $25 alone!

When you say " It changes the drivers specs" It will still run at dual 2 correct?

Thanks, and sorry for that last noob question!

Yes it will still be dual 2 if that is what you choose.

So if the money is avalible, there is no reason not to get them? What could the downfalls be...if any?

get the flatwind...adds more power handling to your sub...most people end up getting the flatwind with theirs...

why is it one or the other? Just can't do it? Or not recomended? The SQ should be fine on them, so I will likely get the the flatwind anyway.

just saw your other thread. go with the copper. you only have 800 (or probably less) to give it anyways. Not to mention that 8000v is not stable down to 1 ohm so you will need either a new amp or to get a dual 1 ohm sub.

Yea, only 800RMS for now, but I will be upgrading to 1000 or so in the near future.

What do you mean I will need a new amp? If I get a dual 2, I can wire it in a series like this...

...right?

look at the link you just posted. With a dual two ohm sub you can get a 1 ohm or a 4 ohm load. your amp will only be putting out 400 watts at 4 ohms. get a one ohm stable amp or buy a dual 1 ohm sub.
