I just started playing around with sketchup. how does this look? any major flaws other than improper port length and the absence of a right side wall?Upload

its 25x17x17.75 around 3.4 cubes after displacement. i am planning to tune it down to 30hz. what ya think?

thanks a lot andrizzle! lol. i want to build a new box for my Q 15. last time i only got advice from the RE L port calc, and it wasnt that smart. i would also do penty of bracing. oh ya and thats 26.5 wide not 25.

havoc was helping my out last night but i have one question. after driver displacement and all, it is 3.4 cubes. with one 4inch port the length would have to be 8.14124 to get it to 30hz. i want to do two, so how do i figure the length of each port?

Straight Length Port required 19.21
Flare Length Port required 20.21

That is for 30 hz with 4 inch ports.
Are you planning on flared ports or just piping?

ok well then i wont be able to have the ports outside cause that is just too long. i am gonna do flared, but now im not sure how to design it now. i might have to put them on the side.

Have you thought about just doing a slot port?

ya i may just do that. less complicated, but the overall box needs to be bigger. i was gonna to flared to keep the size down. ill ask havoc to dream me up a good slot port box.

If not. Here is one that would work well for you.

those are the ones i want but they can change. i am designing a slot port now. how do i measure the port length? is it the shortest distance withing the port?

ok one for you box speacialists. would this work? outside demensions: 26.5 W X 18.25D X 17H. the port opening and width all the way through is 2.5 inches, and the port boards are 14.25 long and 15.5 tall.

I calculated it roughly and its about a 2.6 cuft box after port displacment and is tuned to about 30 hz....rough calculations while I am sittin in bio.

groovy! so if i were to set the left wall a little farther out i would reach the desired cuft of around 3?

i dont really know what it should be, since know one seems to know how to figure the tuning frequency other than subwoofer tools box make. either that or they just dont want to tell me.

im kinda going by that and i want it tuned low, shaking things is great fun!! im not gonna build until i know for sure what its tuned to though.

The port has to be really long because there is quite a bit of port area and also the box isnt extremly big for the amount of port area. If he made the port only 2 inches wide the port would become a lot shorter.
