Windshield - Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 6 inches of the windshield.

Front Side Windows - No tint can be applied legally to this window.
Back Side Windows - Any darkness can be used.

The ST column is the STATE. The TYPE column refers to the VLT (visible light transmission) measuring method - through the tint itself (FILM) or through both the tint and the window glass (NET.) The WS column states the size tint allowed on the WINDSHEILD - usually stated as an inch measurement or "AS1" - which refers to the AS1 mark found on the windshield itself. It may also be a value as some states allow tinting of the entire front window. The FS column shows the VLT allowed for the FRONT SIDE windows. The RS column shows the VLT allowed for the REAR SIDE windows. The RW shows the VLT allowed for the REAR WINDOW.

The F.REF and R.REF columns refer to the allowed REFLECTIVITY of the front side and rear side glass respectively. (NR=not regulated. NE=not excessive (not specific.) NMMA=no metallic or mirrored appearance. MBNR=must be non-reflective (not specific.) MNIR=must not increase reflectivity. NR=not regulated. NONE=no reference to reflectivity in the current law.)

The R.CLR column refers to the colors of tint that are RESTRICTED or not allowed. (N/S=not specified. R=red. Y=yellow. A=amber. B=blue. G=gold. BK=black.)

Some states require a valid certificate to show the tint meets the law. Some states allow for tint outside the law for medical reasons. Also note that the values below are listed for cars - many states have dfferent values athat apply to trucks and SUVs.

Note that the information is current as of May 24, 2005 and is subject to change at any time without notice. Your current state law is the final authority, and you should refer to your local authorities if there are any questions.
