I guess it depends on what you mean by "hit harder". In my experience, ported boxes usually sound louder, but with sealed boxes, you feel the bass more. So it's just different.

well in theory ported boxs would be louder since your hearing both suraces of the sub.. :-) .. but ported boxes are louder at X notes.. sealed gives a flat response through all frequencies where ported will peak and be louder and certain ones..

who said u cant use SEALED boxes for SPL? yes u can, is it as efficent as a ported box NO! will it sound better and rattle ur face... YES... will u need almost double the power?? HELL YES! worth it YES... depends on what u want.... dont sleep on sealed boxes is all I have to say.... prob the deepest sounding system u heard, prob were a sealed setup...

I always tell people BOX is KEY...
a good box designer will make anything sound good... at our store we ONLY make ported boxes... lol

if u dont like it, u get ur money $$ back...
I like low ported boxes.... I LOVE LOW notes, a SEALED box will still make me happy....

i dont mean to steal this thread or anything, i just dont want to make a new one.
im getting a DD2512 within this week and cant decide on sealed or ported. im leaning towards ported. i saw the recommendations on the DD site for ported boxes but i thought tuned to 40 hz was a little high but i could be wrong, i thought like 35 or somewhere would be better.
but what do you guys think i should tune it to?
also i was think about 2.25 cuft, this sound good?
thanks

Ported is louder... Wait I take that back. 4th order band pass is loud but with limited bandwith. That is of course sealed in one chamber and ported in the other. Here this will help... ( www.diysubwoofers.org ) DIYers rule!!!
