slot or round port really isnt louder than eachother

Sometimes port noise is increased when you use a tube/round port. It depends on the quality of the enclosure though, noise is usually only a factor on a cheaply made enclosure.

I personally like round ports for home speakers, and slot ports for car audio useage. AKA my new car enclosure will have a slot port, and my CV V-12F's have dual 4" ports on each speaker lol.

slot passes considerable more amount of air, greatly reducing any noise what so ever.

Still, the noise is based of the quality of the enclosure.

I have a pair of cheapy Pioneer bookshelf speakers, and the round ports make all kind of racket, my CV's have the dual 4" ports, and make no noise at all!

It's all on the build...

Tyler you are right, if is is designed properly with the right sized ports, port noise will be at a minimal. Slot porting works at a much smaller frequency band compared to round ports and if you use Aero's they will be louder then any other. Most port noise comes from when a port is too small for the driver, or enclosure volume causing increased velocity and with the sharp edges of the port catching the air causes noise, Aero ports eliminate this allowing a higher SPL capability. Oh, slot ports make noise too.Polo.. :-)

yea any design can make noise, if designed incorrectly. Aero ports are the best I think! Also the loudest!

Well, my friend has flared ports on his Audiobahn Bandpass setup (the one that's coated black with the flames and 800W RMS).

It sounds like garbage...Plus he keeps the HPF on a lot, and it sounds worse. I had to ride with him today somewhere for like 30 minutes...It about killed me.

No no, I'm saying prefabbed bandpass enclosures for the most part suck lol. Nothing to do with the port, just the enclosure design.

Slot porting is easier to design IMO. Both work well though.

In My Opinion.

Most likely. The differences would be subtle as long as port area is the same.

yea port placement is critical.. when it comes to spl..

shooting ports backward and aimin subs upward is known as a CRX design... it yeilds the most output...

External Aero ports boost SPL a bit more.(in background)

I was talkin about Aero ports, like what Polo got there...

Ports facing toward trunk(back), subs firing upwards(top), yeilds the most SPL most of the time!!

tune box around 30-35 for sound quality!
35-50 for pure spl, yeilds way louder score on mic!

PVC pipe can work, as long as its the correct length and diameter to match the box tuning freq.

ya polo looks nice>>>>>>what is it......but i have a silverado, but ya i was goona go with PCV or slot port......

Is a CRX box just like a regular round port vented box but with the ports inside out?

as long as any type of port is tuned to the same freq, its should yeild the same quality!
slot port, is normally as long as the box itself..
a CRX box MUST have the subs facing upwards, pointing to the ceilng... the aero ports must be facing backwards, but some people have done it forwards.

OK so lets say i have a regular areo ported box tuned to 35hz so if i fliped the ports inside out and pointed them backwards and the subs up i will have a CRX box?

Larger box+more ports+more frequency+more power= More louder, lol. B your right about the upward firing, rear port box but mostly in like Hatch backs and SUVs. In a trunk vehicle it tends to lose a little energy due to the flexing trunk lid. To gain the most enery possible from your ports I recommend them to be 90deg angle from the sub. I could run these ports internal with a small loss but it looks freaky for sure. Here is what Aero port ends look like. Polo..

Hey B/Polo does CRX style box work good(louder) for low tuned boxes

Me, personally, I'd go with a slotted port... tubes don't blow as hard... make it tuned at 30hz-40hz.. @ 1.5 - 2.3 cubes...

hell yea...
man, the CRX box I heard shook the inside of my head, that how freaking lOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWwww it was man! but that was a KILLER system!
4 TSX 15s, 10 Aero ports, with covers to change tuning.. it was SICKKKKK

slotted is nice, but my next box is going to be Aero ported low, like 28-30.. I just loved how that thing sounded. and if u think Aero dont push out as much air, then u wrong....
